Replacing the air handler of a large central system
In large homes, extended cottages and houses whose ductwork has been lengthened over successive renovations, the indoor cabinet has a lot of air to move. The Dettson AHV200024 is the largest cabinet in the Duotec AHV series, in the 5-ton (60,000 BTU) size. It moves the air of a central heat pump or air conditioner whose coil goes in a separate cabinet, and it can take electric backup heat.
An ECM motor that is set to the system
The 3/4 HP variable-speed ECM motor covers a range of 540 to 2,000 CFM (255 to 944 L/s). At commissioning, the airflow is set for the chosen outdoor unit and coil, instead of being limited to a few fixed speeds. The cabinet installs upflow, downflow, horizontal left or horizontal right.
Backup heat and power supply
For the AHV20, Dettson permits EHIA kits from 5 to 20 kW, set on motor tap D, and the 25 kW kit, set on tap C. All are factory approved and installed in the field; without electric heat, the EHIA00KN10 kit (0 kW) is used.
The cabinet is dual voltage: 115, 208 or 230 V, single phase. Without a heater, minimum ampacity is 9.5 A at 120 V, 5.5 A at 208 V and 4.8 A at 240 V; maximum overcurrent protection is 20 A at 120 V and 15 A at 208 and 240 V. A 25 kW kit adds its own electrical requirements: we check the home’s electrical service before proposing it.
What is not supplied
Neither the coil nor the filter is included: Dettson requires a remote filter grille or other means of filtration. Sold alone, the air handler has no certified efficiency rating and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant, which follows the certified outdoor unit + air handler pair. The Dettson warranty covers parts for 5 years in residential use; labour is not covered by the manufacturer.

What to know before installing

Is this air handler right for my 5-ton system?
It is offered in the 5-ton (60,000 BTU) size, with an ECM motor whose range runs from 540 to 2,000 CFM. We confirm the match with the outdoor unit and the coil before ordering.
Can 25 kW of backup heat be installed?
Yes. For the AHV20, Dettson permits the EHIA25KB (25 kW) kit on motor tap C, and the EHIA05KN, EHIA07KN, EHIA10KN, EHIA15KB and EHIA20KB kits on tap D. Backup heat of that size needs a suitable electrical service: we check it during the visit.
What power supply is needed without heat?
Without a heater, Dettson specifies 9.5 A minimum ampacity and 20 A maximum overcurrent protection at 120 V; at 208 V and 240 V, minimum ampacity is 5.5 A and 4.8 A, with 15 A protection.
Are the filter and coil included?
No. The coil goes in a separate cabinet, and Dettson requires a remote filter grille or other means of filtration. Both are included in our quote.
Does it qualify for the LogisVert grant?
Not when bought alone: Hydro-Québec’s grant follows the certified outdoor unit + air handler pair. For a complete system, we check eligibility in the quote.
