An air handler for large homes
In a large home heated and cooled by a central heat pump, the indoor cabinet has to move a lot of air and hold backup heat for the winter. The Dettson AHV160021, from the Duotec series, covers both needs in the 4-ton (48,000 BTU) size: a 3/4 HP variable-speed ECM motor, a range of 540 to 2,000 CFM (255 to 944 L/s) and EHIA heat kits up to 25 kW.
The cabinet contains no coil: the coil goes in a separate cabinet, matched with the outdoor unit of the heat pump or air conditioner.
Six backup heat ratings
Dettson permits six EHIA kits for the AHV16: 5, 7, 10, 15 and 20 kW, set on motor tap D, and 25 kW, set on tap B. The kits are factory approved and installed in the field. Without electric heat, the EHIA00KN10 kit (0 kW) is used. The choice depends on the house and the electrical service: it is a decision we make with you, figures in hand.

Like the other Duotec AHV models, this cabinet is dual voltage. Without a heater, Dettson specifies a minimum ampacity of 9.5 A at 120 V, 5.5 A at 208 V and 4.8 A at 240 V. Maximum overcurrent protection is 20 A at 120 V and 15 A at 208 V and 240 V. With a heat kit, the supply is sized for the kit.
What to plan before installation
The filter is not supplied: Dettson requires a remote filter grille or other means of filtration. The cabinet installs upflow, downflow, horizontal left or horizontal right, which leaves room to manoeuvre in a crowded mechanical room.
Sold alone, it has no certified efficiency rating and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant, which follows the certified outdoor unit + air handler pair. Dettson warrants parts for 5 years in residential use; labour is not covered by the manufacturer.

Which backup heat ratings are possible?
For the AHV16, Dettson permits the EHIA05KN (5 kW), EHIA07KN (7 kW), EHIA10KN (10 kW), EHIA15KB (15 kW) and EHIA20KB (20 kW) kits on tap D, and the EHIA25KB (25 kW) on tap B. Without heat, the EHIA00KN10 kit is used.
Can it run on 115 V?
Yes. At 120 V, without a heater, Dettson specifies a minimum ampacity of 9.5 A and maximum overcurrent protection of 20 A. At 208 V and 240 V, minimum ampacity drops to 5.5 A and 4.8 A, with 15 A protection.
Is the filter supplied?
No. Dettson requires a remote filter grille or other means of filtration. We build it into the return air and show it in the quote.
Is the coil included?
No. The heat pump or air conditioner coil goes in a separate cabinet, chosen based on the outdoor unit.
Does it qualify for the LogisVert grant?
Not when bought alone: Hydro-Québec’s grant follows the certified outdoor unit + air handler pair. For a complete system, we check eligibility in the quote.
