What the 480 V BTH ULTRA 15 is

Thermo 2000 offers its commercial BTH ULTRA line in two three-phase voltages, 480 V and 600 V. This 15 kW model, or 51,180 BTU/h, is the 480 V version: its three 5 kW elements are designed for 277 V and heat together on a single stage. It is a 75 lb wall-mounted boiler that holds 3 US gallons of water and connects with 1 1/4 in female NPT fittings.

It is aimed at commercial and institutional buildings supplied at 480 V: a business or offices heated by radiant floors, an institutional space with hot water baseboards or radiators, or the replacement of a commercial boiler of the same voltage. Thermo 2000 designs it for new installations as well as replacements, and as backup for a heat pump, geothermal or solar.

Voltage first

Before talking about output, the voltage must be confirmed. A boiler designed for 480 V does not suit a 600 V building, and the reverse is also true. During the estimate, we check your building’s supply and, if needed, point you to the 600 V version of the line.

Once the voltage is confirmed, the supply is simple to plan. The BTH ULTRA 15 draws 18.0 A at 480 V; Thermo 2000 lists a 30 A breaker and copper or aluminum wire gauge 10.

Controls that follow the weather

Even on a single stage, the boiler benefits from the T2 UltraSmart controller. With the supplied outdoor sensor, it sets the water temperature on one of three curves (MIN, STD, MAX), and warm weather shutdown rests the unit when heat is not needed. Presets by distribution system, a backlit display, Boost mode, pump purge and a 24 V supply for the thermostat round out the package. Two high limits, automatic at 208 °F and manual at 227 °F, protect the boiler.

Our technicians install the boiler, make the 480 V electrical connection and the loop connection (two reducers are supplied), fill and purge the system, then set the controller. Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 15 years and electrical and mechanical components for 2 years, according to its commercial manual.
