Quick facts
A 30 kW boiler for buildings on 480 V three-phase power
A 480 V version for industrial buildings
Thermo 2000 offers its BTH ULTRA wall-mounted boiler in several voltages. This 30 kW model is the commercial 480 V three-phase version: six 5 kW, 277 V elements, two stages, 102,360 BTU/h according to the manufacturer. It heats the water in a closed loop that feeds a radiant floor, radiators or hot-water baseboards.
It is mainly meant for operators of industrial and commercial buildings whose electrical distribution is 480 V. A plant on the North Shore that wants to heat its offices and locker rooms through the floor, without adding a transformer, is a good example.
480 V in Quebec: what to check
In Quebec, most commercial buildings are supplied at 600 V; 480 V is found mainly in some industrial buildings. The first check is therefore to read the voltage on the main panel’s nameplate. On a 480 V three-phase circuit, the BTH ULTRA 30 draws 36.1 A and calls for a 50 A breaker, per Thermo 2000. Conductor size is set when the circuit is designed, according to the electrical code.
On the water side, the boiler holds 3 US gal, connects with 1 1/4 in female NPT fittings and accepts a maximum working pressure of 30 psi (207 kPa). It weighs 75 lb and mounts on the wall, which keeps the mechanical room floor clear.
The T2 UltraSmart controller day to day
The controller shows its settings on a backlit display and offers presets by distribution system. It modulates output based on demand and adjusts the water temperature through the supplied outdoor sensor, along three curves (MIN, STD and MAX). Warm weather shutdown, Boost mode and pump purge round it out. Two limits protect against overheating: automatic at 208 °F (98 °C), manual reset at 227 °F (108 °C).
AirGreen handles the installation
We start with a free on-site estimate: a check of the voltage and the panel, a look at the loop and the emitters. The written quote then specifies the boiler and the parts that are not among the items Thermo 2000 supplies, such as the circulator and the expansion tank.
On the day, our technicians mount the boiler, connect the piping and the 480 V circuit, install the 30 psi relief valve and the temperature and pressure gauge, fill and purge the loop, then set up the controller. Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 15 years and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years (parts). AirGreen, a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know whether my building is on 480 V?
The voltage is shown on the nameplate of the main panel or the transformer. During the free estimate, we record it before proposing this version or another one in the series.
How much current does the boiler draw?
36.1 A on 480 V three-phase, with a 50 A breaker, per Thermo 2000.
Does the controller adapt to the type of heating?
Yes. The T2 UltraSmart offers presets by distribution system, then modulates output based on demand and water temperature based on the supplied outdoor sensor.
What warranty does Thermo 2000 offer?
15 years on the tank and 2 years on electrical and mechanical components (parts), in Canada and the United States.
What else needs to be planned besides the boiler?
A circulator, an expansion tank and the loop accessories, which are not among the supplied items. Our written quote details them.
