THERMO 2000 TURBOMAX80-5 Indirect Water Heater (80 gallons) | Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, South Shore & North Shore
An 80 US gallon indirect water heater for plexes and large homes heated by an electric boiler
In a duplex, a triplex or a large home heated by an electric boiler, hot water is shared between several households or several floors, and the peaks overlap. The Thermo 2000 TurboMax 80-5 indirect water heater answers this situation with an 80 US gallon tank, a 32.7 sq. ft. copper coil system and a maximum domestic hot water flow of 15 gpm. AirGreen installs it in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the South Shore and on the North Shore.
When the reserve matters more than the capacity
An electric boiler is sized to heat the building, and its capacity is limited by the electrical service. That is why tank volume matters so much in a plex: it stores energy during off-peak hours and releases it when everyone opens the tap. The manufacturer’s table shows this clearly. For water at 110 °F, first-hour output reaches 1,189 US GPH, versus 1,109 US GPH continuous; the gap comes from the energy already stored in the tank. With a modest boiler, this reserve becomes the first line of defence against a lukewarm shower.

Plexes and multigenerational homes
In a duplex or triplex whose electric boiler serves all the units, a single indirect tank can replace several electric water heaters spread across the basements. The owner then has only one hot water unit to maintain, and the freed space can be used for something else. In a multigenerational home, the principle is the same: one tank, one heat source, and a reserve large enough that the two households do not have to organize themselves around hot water. We check with you the requirements that apply to distribution between units before proposing this configuration.
Reading the maximum exchange capacity
The first-hour and continuous output values assume that the boiler supplies the exchanger’s maximum exchange capacity: 645,000 BTU/h (189 kW) for water at 110 °F. A plex electric boiler generally supplies much less. With it, the TurboMax 80-5 works the same way, but continuous output follows the boiler’s real capacity. Thermo 2000 also specifies that the values must be reduced for high-temperature and continuous-flow applications. Our quote states the output you can expect with your boiler, not the best line of the table.
A tank 74 3/4 in tall
The TurboMax 80-5 is 74 3/4 in high and 24 in in diameter. In plex basements, where the height under the beams is often limited by piping and ducts, this measurement must be checked before ordering, adding the space needed for the top fittings. The tank weighs 308 lb empty: we plan the route down the stairs and a solid, level floor near a drain.
Connections and distribution
Potable water and the boiler both connect in 1 1/2 in, male sweat on the potable water side and NPT male on the boiler side. When hot water must travel several floors, we add a recirculation loop when needed so it reaches distant taps quickly, and a thermostatic mixing valve to deliver a safe temperature. The control is connected to the electric boiler with hot water priority. The tank drain valve, supplied as standard, is used for yearly maintenance.
Choosing the production temperature
The temperature at which water is produced changes the quantity available. At 140 °F, the TurboMax 80-5 gives 581 US GPH in the first hour and 549 US GPH continuous; at 160 °F, 316 US GPH and 302 US GPH. In a plex, we choose the production temperature according to real uses, knowing that every increase reduces hourly output, then the thermostatic mixing valve ensures a safe temperature before the water reaches the units. This setting is discussed with you according to the occupants’ ages and the length of the piping.
Manufacturer’s warranty
Thermo 2000 offers a 15-year residential warranty, a 10-year commercial warranty and a 2-year warranty on mechanical components. The category applicable to your building is confirmed in writing with the quote.
Installation of the Thermo 2000 TurboMax 80-5 by AirGreen
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal, active in heating, ventilation and air conditioning for more than fifteen years and holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. For this indirect water heater, our work includes:
- analysis of each unit’s needs and of the electric boiler’s capacity;
- check of the free height, the delivery route and the floor;
- removal of the old electric water heaters;
- connecting the potable water in 1 1/2 in, with thermostatic mixing valve and, if needed, a recirculation loop;
- connecting to the boiler in 1 1/2 in, with circulator, check valve and air vent;
- the relief valve, its discharge pipe and the expansion tank;
- wiring the control, commissioning and a maintenance plan.
We serve Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, Rosemont, Villeray, Saint-Hubert, Lachine, Sainte-Rose and the entire South Shore and North Shore. The on-site estimate is free, the quote is written and financing is available.
