Quick facts
The 60 in galvanized oval duct is used where a round duct won’t fit. Its flattened profile lets it sit inside a wall cavity, between joists or in a shallow ceiling while still leaving a path for the air. It comes in 5 and 6 in sizes.
The way to supply the upper floor without a bulkhead
In a multi-storey house, bringing forced air or air from an air exchanger to an upstairs bedroom means going through a wall. A round duct of the same size doesn’t always fit, and a bulkhead in the corner of a room isn’t always welcome. The oval duct rises inside the cavity and comes out at the floor or ceiling of the upper floor.
A complete family of fittings
- Vertical and flat elbows at 45° and 90°, to change direction without leaving the oval format
- 90° oval-to-round elbow and oval-to-round fittings, to connect to the round system
- Oval ceiling outlet, to finish the run under a grille
Installation tips
Measure the actual depth of the cavity before planning the route; the duct’s overall dimensions are not listed here, so ask for them if space is tight. Screw and seal every joint with aluminum tape or mastic. In an exterior wall, insulate around the duct and close the vapour barrier.

- Runs between joists or in a shallow ceiling
- Air exchanger ducts in tight spaces
