Quick facts
The A.C.R. 45° copper elbow changes the direction of a refrigerant line by half a right angle. Both ends are female (C × C): the tube slides in, then each joint is brazed. It is mostly used in pairs, to offset a line and route it around an obstacle.
The fitting for offsets and bypasses
When a beam, a ventilation duct or an existing pipe is in the way, two 45° elbows joined by a short piece of tube form an offset that goes around it, with a gentler change of direction than two 90° turns. The 45° elbow is also used to change levels along a wall or to enter a cabinet at an angle.
Eleven diameters, from 1/4 in to 2-5/8 in
It is available for tubes of 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, 1-1/8, 1-3/8, 1-5/8, 2-1/8 and 2-5/8 in outside diameter, from small liquid lines up to commercial circuits.
Getting an offset right
- Measure the gap to cross, then cut the piece of tube between the two elbows to suit.
- Line up both elbows in the same plane before brazing, for a straight, clean line.
- Cut square, deburr and clean each tube end.
- Braze under a light flow of dry nitrogen to keep the inside of the joints clean.
Work on a refrigerant circuit is reserved for a qualified refrigeration technician.

Going around an obstacle smoothly
Two 45° elbows make an offset around a beam, a duct or existing piping.
- Offsets around a beam, a ventilation duct or an existing pipe
- Changing a line’s level along a wall
- Angled entry into a box or through a wall
- Lines where you want to avoid back-to-back 90° turns

What to know before installing
- The size is the outside diameter of the tube it connects.
- For an offset, measure the distance to clear before cutting the tube between the two elbows.
- Line up both elbows in the same plane before brazing.
- Braze with a light flow of dry nitrogen; this work is reserved for a qualified technician.

Frequently asked questions
Why two 45° elbows instead of two 90° ones?
To clear an obstacle, two 45° elbows give a smoother offset: the refrigerant changes direction less abruptly and the assembly often takes less width.
Is the size the tube or the fitting?
The outside diameter of the tube. A 7/8 in elbow takes a tube with a 7/8 in outside diameter.
Is there a street version of the 45°?
We offer this 45° elbow as female × female (C × C). The street elbows in our range are 90° elbows.
Can you install it?
Yes. Our technicians run the refrigerant piping when they install your heat pump, everywhere in Greater Montréal.
