Heat pumpBehind a heat pump, it produces less
It evaporates water from a pad using the heat of the air coming off the furnace. A heat pump blows cooler air, so it evaporates less. With a heat pump, talk to our estimator: depending on the manufacturer, we connect it to hot water or suggest a steam model instead.

M is the version shipped with the manual humidistat. Its parts warranty is 10 years, against 5 for the second-generation HE17M2.

Clean Comfort HE17M: 17 gal/day of bypass humidification for a larger home
The HE17M is the HE12M's bigger sibling. Mounted on the furnace, it sends warm air through a wet pad. It gives 17 gal/day with 49 °C (120 °F) furnace air. It covers a home up to 1,650 sq ft according to the manufacturer, for average construction.
What changes from the HE12M
It produces 5 gal/day more, in a 12 × 10 × 16.5 in. cabinet that weighs 8 lb. Its opening is taller: 8⅞ × 12 in., on the warm-air or return plenum, left or right. It uses a different pad, the HEP-GA19. Like the HE12M, it ships with the HEP-MHX3C manual humidistat (that is what the M means) and keeps the 10-year warranty on the humidifier's parts, 1 year on accessories.
Installation and upkeep
Plan for a 6 in. bypass duct, a water line, a drain and the furnace's 24 V for the valve. Clean Comfort recommends replacing the HEP-GA19 pad once or twice a season. Output is measured with 49 °C air; behind a heat pump the air is less warm and it gives less.
