01 · Your home

Is it the right size for your home?

It puts 17 gallons of water a day into the air, enough to humidify about 2,000 sq ft (our estimate). Pick your home's living area.

It's the right size.

For a 900 to 1,500 sq ft house, it's within its range. It will run at part load on ordinary days and keep a reserve for the coldest days.

AirGreen estimate. Honeywell (Resideo) publishes no area for this model. For an average-construction home, we count 120 sq ft per gallon a day, the ratio in AprilAire's and Lennox's tables. Older or leaky house: go one size up; our estimator confirms it on site.

17 galWhat it produces per day, at full output

About 64 litres of water turned into humidity in 24 hours. The control runs it to match the humidity you set: it rarely runs flat out, except in very cold weather.

Heat pumpBehind a heat pump, it produces less

It evaporates water from a pad using the heat of the air coming off the furnace. A heat pump blows cooler air, so it evaporates less. With a heat pump, talk to our estimator: depending on the manufacturer, we connect it to hot water or suggest a steam model instead.

C kitEverything to install it

The C version adds 24 in. of 6 in. bypass duct, 20 ft of thermostat wire, 20 ft of feed tubing, 10 ft of drain tubing and a saddle valve.

7 WNext to nothing in electricity

Its valve uses 7 W at 24 V. It works with water pressure from 40 to 120 psi.

UpkeepWhat gets replaced, and when

HC26 pad, replace once a year.

35%The humidity to aim for in winter, at most

At −7 °C, no more than 35%; at −18 °C, no more than 25%. Above that, the moisture condenses on the windows. The control adjusts for you if it has an outdoor sensor.

Honeywell HE205C1000/U: the large bypass model, installation kit included

The HE205C1000/U is the bigger sibling of the HE105C1000/U. This Honeywell bypass humidifier delivers 17 gal/day, for a home of about 2,000 sq ft by our estimate. It isn't part of the TrueEASE line.

What changes from the HE105

It goes from 12 to 17 gal/day thanks to a larger cabinet and the HC26 pad, the size used in the large TrueEASE. Like it, it has no automatic damper and its valve uses only 7 W at 24 V. The C version adds all the installation materials: 24 in. of 6 in. bypass duct, 20 ft of thermostat wire, 20 ft of feed tubing, 10 ft of drain tubing and a saddle valve.

Before and after installation

Water pressure must be between 40 and 120 psi. It needs a drain and a 24 V supply, plus a 9¾ × 12⅝ in. opening in the plenum. The HC26 pad is replaced once a year. With cooler air, such as behind a heat pump, it produces less. A steam model is then a better fit.
