Quick facts
The A.C.R. copper coupling is a straight fitting with two female ends (C × C). It joins two copper tubes of the same outside diameter end to end: each tube fits into one side, then both joints are brazed. It is the basic fitting for extensions and repairs on refrigerant lines.
The fitting for extensions and repairs
When a line is too short after a unit is moved, or a punctured or crushed section has to be replaced, you cut, insert a piece of new tube and join it to the existing line with two couplings. On a long run, the coupling also joins two coils of soft tubing. We use it on wall-mounted, multi-zone and central heat pumps as well as in commercial refrigeration.
Thirteen diameters, from 3/16 in to 2-5/8 in
The coupling is available for tubing of 3/16, 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, 1-1/8, 1-3/8, 1-5/8, 2-1/8 and 2-5/8 in outside diameter.
A repair done right
- Cut both ends square, deburr them and have them meet at the centre of the coupling.
- Clean the outside of the tubes and the inside of the coupling down to bright metal.
- Braze under a light flow of dry nitrogen.
- Perform a pressure test, a leak check and an evacuation before recharging the circuit.
Work on a refrigerant circuit is reserved for a qualified refrigeration technician.

What to know before installing
- The coupling joins two tubes of the same outside diameter.
- Cut both ends square and have them meet in the middle of the coupling.
- Clean the outside of the tubes and the inside of the coupling before brazing.
- After a repair, pressure-test with dry nitrogen and pull a vacuum before recharging.

Frequently asked questions
Can the coupling join two different sizes?
No, this coupling joins two tubes of the same outside diameter. Going from one size to another takes a reducing fitting.
Is the size the tube or the fitting?
The outside diameter of the tube. A 1/2 in coupling takes two tubes with a 1/2 in outside diameter.
What comes after a line repair?
A dry nitrogen pressure test, a leak check, then a vacuum before putting the refrigerant back. This work is reserved for a qualified technician.
Can you do the repair?
Yes. Our technicians repair and extend refrigerant lines everywhere in Greater Montréal.
