Central Heat Pump ARCOAIRE H4H7T ION 2 stages | 2 Tons - 24,000 BTU (Air Handler FJMA4X) - R410A
A two-stage central heat pump for a two-storey house, from the main floor to the bedrooms
In a two-storey house, the ducts start in the basement and rise to the bedrooms. A central heat pump connected to this duct system heats the house through most of the winter and cools it in summer, with a single thermostat. The Central Heat Pump ARCOAIRE H4H7T ION 2 stages | 2 Tons - 24,000 BTU (Air Handler FJMA4X) - R410A pairs the H4H7T24AKAAA outdoor unit with the FJMA4X24L0BC cabinet, which pushes air through the existing duct system.
Its compressor is two-stage. In a two-level home, where heat rises and the upstairs bedrooms warm up quickly in summer, this feature makes a real difference.
A two-level house
The 2-ton size is aimed at compact two-storey houses, two-level semi-detached houses and townhouses whose ducts serve both floors, when the insulation is reasonable. These homes have one thing in common: warm air rises. In summer, the bedrooms under the roof build up the day's heat; in winter, the main floor and basement are often cooler than upstairs. Baseboards or window air conditioners treat each room separately; a central system moves air between levels and passes it through a filter on every cycle.
The size is confirmed with a room-by-room load calculation that takes into account roof insulation, bedroom windows and orientation. An older house with a poorly insulated roof may need the next size up; we say so during the visit.
The H4H7T ION pairing and the FJMA4X cabinet
The H4H7T24AKAAA outdoor unit holds the two-stage compressor, the outdoor coil and its fan. The FJMA4X24L0BC cabinet is an air handler: it houses the indoor coil, the blower and the space for the backup electric heating elements. It takes the place of the old electric furnace and connects to the existing plenum and return air.
The two units are linked by an insulated copper refrigerant line and run on R-410A. The thermostat must be compatible with a two-stage heat pump and with the backup; we supply it and set it up.
A two-stage compressor in a two-level house
A single-speed compressor runs at full capacity or stops. A two-stage compressor can also run at a reduced level when demand is moderate, and switch to full capacity when demand rises.
In a two-storey house, this matters for a simple reason: how air is shared between levels depends on how long the blower runs. A system that reaches the main-floor set point in a few minutes, then stops, leaves little time for cool air to rise to the bedrooms. A system with a reduced level can run longer without overshooting the set point, and air moves more between levels.
System ratings
The pairing of the H4H7T24AKAAA outdoor unit and the FJMA4X24L0BC indoor unit is not listed with SEER2 ratings in the AHRI certification directory. We confirm the ratings of the complete system before the quote; they also determine grant eligibility.
You will therefore know the ratings of the proposed system before signing. If you are weighing several options, we compare them on the same basis, with the exact model numbers.
These ratings measure three things: cooling efficiency over a season (SEER2), cooling efficiency in hot weather (EER2) and heating efficiency over a season (HSPF2). In Quebec, the last one weighs the most, since the house is heated most of the year.
Upstairs, in summer
For the bedrooms to stay comfortable in summer, the equipment is not enough: cool air has to get there and warm air has to be able to leave. During the visit, we check that each bedroom has enough supply, that there is a return upstairs, and that the ducts running up are neither crushed nor disconnected in the walls or attic.
Balancing dampers then send a little more air upstairs in summer and a little more downstairs in winter. The cabinet cools the air and removes humidity, which flows out through the condensate drain: the bedrooms are cooler and the air drier for the night.
Heating, from fall to deep cold
A heat pump moves heat instead of producing it. In winter, the refrigerant captures heat from the outdoor air, the compressor concentrates it, and the cabinet's coil releases it to the air that the blower distributes. In mild weather, the heat pump heats the house on its own.
As the cold intensifies, it supplies less heat while the house asks for more. In deep cold, the cabinet's backup elements take over the missing share. We size them from the load calculation and the capacity of the electrical panel. During defrost, the white vapour rising from the outdoor unit is normal.
LogisVert
This pairing does not carry an amount on Hydro-Québec's LogisVert list of October 19, 2026. If the grant matters for your project, we will point you to an eligible pairing of comparable size.
Installation by AirGreen in a two-storey house
What we check during the visit
- Ducts: size of the main trunk, runs to the upper floor, number of registers. A central heat pump only delivers its full efficiency if the airflow keeps up.
- Return air: whether there is a return upstairs and the size of the return grilles.
- Electrical panel: capacity for the outdoor unit's dedicated circuit and for the cabinet's backup.
- Outdoor location: a clear spot, above the snow line, away from roof drips and bedroom windows.
- Thermostat: its position matters, since it reads the temperature where it is installed.
The job
- Removal of the old furnace and, where applicable, the old air conditioner, with recovery of the refrigerant.
- Installation of the FJMA4X cabinet, connection to the plenum and return air, condensate drain to a floor drain or a pump.
- Installation of the outdoor unit on a bracket or a stand.
- Refrigerant line in insulated copper, brazing, pressure test and vacuum.
- Dedicated circuit, disconnect, power to the backup and thermostat wiring for both compressor stages.
- Commissioning: charge, airflow, test of both levels, the defrost and the backup, adjustment of the dampers between levels.
The thermostat and its settings
A steady set point gives the best results with a heat pump: deep setbacks at night force a recovery in the morning, often with the backup. Continuous fan mode helps mix the air between levels, especially in summer. Emergency heat mode, which heats with the backup only, is only for an outdoor unit breakdown. We go over these settings with you at commissioning.
Maintenance and warranty
Check the filter every month in season and replace it according to its format. Keep the outdoor unit clear of snow and leaves, and do not cover it in winter. Plan annual HVAC maintenance of the coil, the condensate drain and the electrical connections.
Warranty: 10 years on the compressor, 10 years on parts and 6 years on labor.
