The pre-insulated copper tube is a single refrigerant line: one copper tube, already covered with 1/2 in thick insulation, sold in 50 ft or 164 ft rolls. It is used to build a custom pair of lines or to replace a single line.
Building your lines one diameter at a time
A standard line set comes with a fixed pair of diameters. With pre-insulated tube, you take a liquid line and a gas line whose diameters are chosen separately, based on the unit's installation manual. It is practical for central heat pumps whose suction line goes up to 7/8 in, for the long runs of multi-zone systems and for repairing a line without replacing everything.
Diameters and lengths available
- 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 in: 50 ft or 164 ft roll
- 5/8, 3/4 and 7/8 in: 50 ft roll
The diameter is the outside diameter of the copper tube; the 1/2 in in the title is the thickness of the insulation.
Installation tips
A heat pump needs two lines: plan one roll per diameter. Bend without crushing the tube, cut square and deburr. After brazing or flaring, insulate any joints and fittings left bare to prevent condensation on the cold line. Refrigerant lines are connected by a qualified refrigeration technician, with a pressure test and evacuation.

Frequently asked questions
How is it different from the pre-insulated line set?
The line set pairs two tubes, liquid and gas, in one coil. Here each coil holds one tube, so you choose each size separately.
Is the 1/2 in the tube or the insulation?
The title refers to the insulation thickness. The copper tube size is picked in the menu, from 1/4 in to 7/8 in.
Why a 164 ft coil?
For long runs or several connections on the same job, with less waste.
Can you install it?
