Rapid diagnosis and precise intervention in a stairwell
A customer from Brossard , on the South Shore of Montreal , contacted us about a problem with a GREE wall-mounted heat pump installed high up in a stairwell . For several days, the unit had stopped blowing hot air, even though the heating mode was activated and the outdoor compressor seemed to be operating normally.
At AirGreen , we are regularly called upon to work on this type of installation, which is often complex due to the height and restricted access.
Step One: On-Site Assessment
Upon our arrival, we carried out a complete inspection of the system :
-
Checking the indoor air flow , almost zero despite the operation of the outdoor fan;
-
Control of electronic parameters and ambient temperature sensor ;
-
Visual inspection of the indoor unit installed more than 4 meters from the ground.
Our diagnosis quickly revealed a faulty control board : the electronic module was no longer transmitting signals to the interior fan, preventing any distribution of hot or cold air.
A delicate replacement at height
Replacing a control board in a wall unit located this high requires:
-
The installation of a secure mobile scaffold to access the device;
-
Complete switching off of the indoor unit and the associated circuit breaker;
-
Careful disassembly of the front panel and electronic housing ;
-
Replacement of the original GREE card , supplied by our parts warehouse in Montreal;
-
A reprogramming of the synchronization parameters between the indoor and outdoor units.
Results after repair
Once the new card was installed, we rebooted the system and performed a full test :
-
The indoor fan has resumed normal operation;
-
Heating mode produced a constant flow of hot air at 38°C ;
-
No error codes appeared on reboot;
-
The client immediately noticed a return of thermal comfort in the house, particularly at the upper landing of the staircase.
Maintenance and prevention tips
Our technicians took advantage of the visit to remind you of some good maintenance practices :
-
Clean the heat pump filters every 4 to 6 weeks;
-
Check electrical connections and supply voltage annually;
-
Avoid leaving the unit running at maximum power continuously for several days without a break, especially in winter;
-
Have complete preventative maintenance performed before each cold season .
We also recommended the customer to subscribe to our AirGreen Serenity maintenance program , which includes:
-
A complete annual inspection;
-
Cleaning the indoor coil and outdoor condenser;
-
A check of the condensate drain;
-
A detailed performance report provided to the client.
