Project context: a cold room for a food store
The client, the owner of a small local food business, wanted to install a cold room for storing perishable products. The goal: to ensure a constant temperature of 2°C, optimal air circulation, and maximum energy efficiency, while complying with MAPAQ health standards.
After a thorough technical study, we recommended the installation of a Bally refrigeration system , a brand renowned for its robustness and thermal precision, particularly suited to commercial environments.
Step 1 — Preparation and insulation of the premises
Before any mechanical installation, our team supervised the installation of DuroSpan GPS R5 insulation panels , visible on the walls of the room. These panels provide high thermal insulation , essential for maintaining cold stability and reducing energy consumption.
Each joint has been carefully sealed to prevent air infiltration. We have also prepared the floor with a waterproof membrane and a non-slip coating that complies with food standards.
Step 2 — Installing the Bally Evaporator
The Bally indoor unit, equipped with two powerful axial fans , was installed high up to ensure even distribution of cold air throughout the space. This compact model offers excellent performance in confined environments.
Refrigeration connections were made using insulated copper pipes and precise bends to prevent pressure loss. Electrical wiring was secured in rigid conduits to meet CSA standards and ensure the installation's durability.
Step 3 — Connect to the outdoor condenser
Outside the building, a condenser paired with the hermetic compressor was installed on a raised support, allowing good ventilation and facilitating maintenance.
We then carried out a complete vacuum draw of the refrigerant circuit , followed by a charge of R404A gas — a fluid frequently used for commercial cold rooms.
Each step was validated by a nitrogen leak test , guaranteeing the absence of leaks before final pressurization.
Step 4 — System Startup and Calibration
Once the system was powered up, we carried out a precise calibration of the electronic thermostat and checked the following points:

Suction and discharge temperatures according to Bally data

Evaporator automatically defrosts according to programmed cycles

Efficient drainage of condensates
The customer immediately noticed the rapid increase in cold and the stability of the system, proof of optimal adjustment.
Step 5 — Finishing and compliance
We finished by installing waterproof LED lighting and a magnetic door switch , allowing the fan to automatically stop when opened, thus reducing the loss of cold air.
