An elegant and efficient solution for an urban condo
Recently, our AirGreen team installed a Sharp wall-mounted heat pump in a modern condo in Montreal's Outremont district. The client, who owns an apartment on the second floor of a typical Montreal brick building, was looking for a discreet and efficient solution to replace their old portable air conditioner with a four-season system that would provide year-round comfort and energy efficiency.
The limited space of the balcony and the architectural constraints of the building made this installation particularly technical. At AirGreen, we were able to combine performance, aesthetics and compliance , while respecting the requirements of the condominium association.
The choice of system: Sharp ECO Inverter, a benchmark in efficiency
The chosen model, a Sharp ECO Inverter , is known for its variable speed technology and high energy efficiency . This type of unit automatically adapts to heating or cooling needs, allowing:
-
reduced energy consumption ,
-
quiet operation ,
-
and increased compressor longevity .
The selected power (12,000 BTU) was perfectly suited to the condo's surface area (approximately 900 sq. ft.) and its southwest orientation, which is often exposed to the sun.
An installation challenge: optimizing space on the balcony
The outdoor unit was installed on the rear balcony of the home, a cramped space where every inch counted. Our technicians used a reinforced wall bracket to elevate the condenser, freeing up floor space and ensuring adequate ventilation .
Here are some key elements of the installation:
-
Complete insulation of refrigeration ducts with heat shrink tape to protect against cold and humidity.
-
Electrical connection protected in a waterproof box, in accordance with CSA and Hydro-Québec standards.
-
Precise unit leveling to prevent vibration noise.
-
Optimized drainage to prevent water from running onto the balcony floor.
Thanks to this meticulous approach, the system integrates perfectly into the building's environment, while respecting the aesthetic constraints imposed by the union.
Technical intervention: rigor and precision
Installing a wall-mounted heat pump requires a series of precise steps that our technicians have mastered perfectly:
-
Drilling the exterior wall with anti-vibration protection.
-
Passage of refrigeration lines and communication cable between the indoor unit and the Sharp condenser.
-
Copper brazing with nitrogen to prevent internal oxidation.
-
Pressure test (400 psi) to verify circuit integrity.
-
Vacuum drawn to 500 microns to eliminate all traces of humidity.
-
Complete commissioning and verification of the correct operation of the inverter compressor.
Once the system was running, we took a series of measurements: discharge temperature, suction pressure, and compressor amperage. All parameters were within the manufacturer's specifications.
Result: optimal comfort and sound discretion
The customer immediately noticed the difference:
-
a uniform temperature in all rooms,
-
almost inaudible operation ,
-
and precise control thanks to the programmable wall remote control.
The Sharp unit, with its Plasmacluster technology, also improves indoor air quality by neutralizing particles and allergens. A significant benefit for residents of an urban environment like Outremont.
AirGreen Maintenance and Recommendations
We advised the client to have a full annual maintenance including:
-
cleaning the internal filter ,
-
refrigerant gas check ,
-
condensation drain control ,
-
and inspection of the electrical system .
Proper maintenance not only ensures system performance, but also its durability and compliance with the manufacturer's warranty.
