Fujitsu wall-mounted air conditioner repair in Plateau-Mont-Royal

A typical service call in the middle of a Montreal winter

At AirGreen , we often receive service calls even in the middle of February. This is the case for this customer in Plateau-Mont-Royal , whose Fujitsu wall-mounted air conditioner was operating in heating mode. After several weeks of trouble-free operation, the unit suddenly stopped blowing hot air.

Upon arriving on site, our technician noted that the unit was installed above a French window , in a typical configuration found in Plateau housing: restricted space, limited ceiling height, and minimal clearance between the unit and the lintel. This type of installation, although common, requires rigorous maintenance, as the proximity to the cold outside and the humidity of the glazing can accelerate condensation and icing problems.

Diagnosis: Frozen sensor and drain

The customer reported a complete shutdown of the blower accompanied by a flashing display. Our technicians carried out a complete diagnosis :

  • Error code check : Indication of an internal temperature problem.

  • Evaporator coil inspection : presence of partial frost at the top of the coil.

  • Drain check : blockage caused by ice , which caused condensate to overflow.

  • Thermal sensor test : internal sensor faulty, probably due to prolonged exposure to cold.

These symptoms are typical of Fujitsu wall-mounted air conditioners frequently used in heating mode during the winter, especially when the drain outlet is not equipped with a heating cable .

Intervention and repair

After isolating the cause, our team proceeded methodically:

  1. Complete defrosting of the coil and drain pan using a controlled hot air device.

  2. Replacement of the indoor temperature sensor with an original Fujitsu part.

  3. Installation of a low-energy heating cable in the drain line to prevent future ice formation.

  4. Complete cleaning of the filter and the blower flap , often neglected and responsible for uneven airflow.

  5. Performance test : The unit resumed normal operation with excellent hot air flow.

Result: comfort restored and prevention assured

In less than two hours, the repair was completed. The customer regained the thermal comfort of his home, even during the freezing February days. We also added a preventive maintenance note , recommending:

  • to have the drain inspected every fall,

  • to leave the automatic defrost mode active ,

  • and maintain a minimum clearance of 5 cm between the top of the unit and the ceiling, to avoid recirculation of hot air.

Thanks to these adjustments, the Fujitsu system in this Plateau-Mont-Royal home is now ready to seamlessly cope with Montreal's climatic variations.
