Repair of an LG wall-mounted heat pump in Pointe-Claire

Rapid intervention on a West Island condo

On a sunny Friday morning in Pointe-Claire , our AirGreen team was contacted by a client living in a modern brick condo, typical of Montreal's West Island . His LG wall-mounted heat pump refused to start despite several attempts via the remote control. With the outside temperature still cool, indoor comfort was seriously compromised.

Upon arrival, we noticed that the outdoor unit was installed on a narrow brick balcony, a common position in condominium buildings. This type of installation, while aesthetically pleasing, requires special attention to electrical connections and air circulation .

Initial diagnosis: power supply and circuit check

The first step was to check the heat pump's power source . Using a multimeter, our technician confirmed that voltage was correctly reaching the wall junction box. However, the outdoor unit still wasn't responding.

A visual inspection revealed that the power cable was damaged where it exited the protective housing , probably due to prolonged exposure to cold and humidity. This defect explained the intermittent power outage and the compressor's refusal to start.

Wiring repair and safety check

We carried out a complete replacement of the electrical cable and checked the insulation of the box , thus ensuring compliance with the CSA standard for outdoor installations.
Before restoring power, the technician tested for ground continuity and tightened the internal connections of the main relay.

Once power was restored, the heat pump restarted normally. However, the ventilation remained abnormally slow, indicating another potential problem with the outdoor unit fan .

Secondary diagnosis: a dirty and unbalanced fan

Dismantling the protective grille revealed a significant accumulation of dust and pollen on the fan blades. Over time, this deposit had caused a mechanical imbalance , straining the motor and causing irregular starting.
We carefully cleaned the assembly using a biodegradable degreaser and carried out a rotor realignment , a crucial step to ensure smooth and quiet rotation.

Performance test and final calibration

After the repair, the LG heat pump was tested in both heating and cooling mode. The results were conclusive:

  • Hot blow temperature: 37.8°C after 10 minutes of operation.

  • Cold blowing temperature: 8.9°C after 5 minutes in air conditioning mode.

  • R-410A refrigerant pressures: in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.

These values confirmed the complete restoration of thermal performance and compressor reliability.

Customer Care Tips

Before concluding the intervention, we took the time to explain to the customer some good practices to extend the life of his LG heat pump:

  • Clean the internal filters every two months.

  • Protect exterior cables and conduits from the elements using a rigid cover.

  • Avoid obstructions around the outdoor unit to promote airflow.

  • Have the refrigerant and electrical connections checked once a year by an AirGreen certified technician.
