Precision diagnosis and perfectly restored temperature thanks to AirGreen
At AirGreen , our team of HVAC technicians was recently called for repair service on a Midea wall-mounted heat pump installed in a modern home in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue , on the west side of Montreal. The customer had noticed a drop in performance for several days: the indoor unit was blowing lukewarm air despite a setpoint of 20°C. This is a typical situation that can hide several possible causes—from a lack of refrigerant to a sensor or electronic board problem.
Initial on-site observation
Upon our arrival, our technician began with a complete assessment of the Midea system .
-
Ambient temperature in the room: 23.8°C .
-
Temperature measured at the air outlet using an infrared thermometer: 15.6°C (see image).
This temperature difference was not sufficient to ensure optimal performance of the heat pump . Cooling needed to be more pronounced, ideally around 10°C difference.
Inspection of the refrigeration circuit
We checked the refrigerant level outside. The compressor was running, but the pressure reading indicated a slightly lower charge than normal . This could explain the excessively high blowing temperature. After performing a nitrogen leak test, no microleaks were detected.
➡️ The problem therefore probably came from a micro-loss of charge over time , typical after several years of use.
Repair carried out
-
Recovery of remaining refrigerant in order to work in safe conditions.
-
Complete system recharge according to Midea specifications (R410A type, exact quantity according to the nameplate).
-
Complete cleaning of the interior turbine and exterior condenser.
-
Checked the evaporator temperature sensor , which was slightly dirty, distorting the temperature reading.
-
Recommissioning and electronic calibration of the control module.
Results obtained
After recharging and calibration:
-
Air outlet temperature: 7.2°C .
-
Ambient temperature stabilized at 21°C in less than 20 minutes.
The 14°C difference in airflow demonstrated optimal performance. The customer immediately noticed a significant improvement in interior comfort.
Explanations and advice given to the customer
We took the time to explain to the owner the importance of regular maintenance to avoid a gradual decline in performance:
-
Clean filters every 4 to 6 weeks.
-
Annual inspection of refrigerant level and outdoor fan operation.
-
Watch for warning signs such as: warm air, unusual noise, excessive condensation, or slow starting.
