    A clear answer on the eligibility of heat pumps used solely for heating under the LogisVert program

    The question comes up often among our clients in Montréal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore and the South Shore: is a heating-only heat pump eligible for Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert grant program? At AirGreen, we are on the front line of this energy transition, and every day we help homeowners apply for this financial assistance. In this article, we give you a complete, documented answer based on the official requirements of the LogisVert guide in effect (version 1.10, September 2026).

    The LogisVert program: reminder of the objectives

    Implemented by Hydro-Québec , the LogisVert program encourages households to adopt energy efficiency measures, including the installation of efficient heat pumps . By offering substantial financial assistance , Hydro-Québec aims to reduce electricity consumption for heating and air conditioning, and reduce our collective environmental footprint.

    However, not all installations are eligible. It is imperative to comply with specific technical conditions, both for the equipment installed and for the nature of its use.

    Can you install a heat pump that only heats?

    The answer is no , a heat pump that is used only for heating is not eligible for the LogisVert program.

    An essential requirement: dual heating/air conditioning use

    According to the official guide (version 1.10), the work must involve installing an ENERGY STAR certified heat pump for heating and cooling. This condition applies to every accepted configuration, whether it is:

    • a wall-mounted air-to-air heat pump (mini split) ,

    • or a central heat pump (split system) .

    It is even specified that the system must be used for heating and cooling purposes. Therefore, equipment that only operates in heating mode, even if it is efficient, does not meet the eligibility conditions and will be rejected.

    The technical criteria to be respected

    To be eligible, the installed heat pump must:

    • Be new and purchased in Quebec;

    • Be ENERGY STAR certified (of the “cold climate” type for the highest rate);

    • Have a complete installation, including an outdoor unit and one or more indoor units ;

    • Be installed in eligible housing (single-family home, condo, apartment building, etc.);

    • Be installed by a certified company (registered with the Registraire des entreprises du Québec, with a valid RBQ license).

    And most importantly: it must be used for both heating AND air conditioning .

    Why this requirement?

    Hydro-Québec's goal is to promote multipurpose equipment that can completely replace a less efficient system, while meeting thermal comfort needs year-round . A heat pump that only heats during the winter but is not used for air conditioning does not optimize energy savings year-round, which is contrary to the program's goals.

    What solution is there for customers who only want heating?

    If you have a poorly ventilated home, or you don't need air conditioning, there are several solutions that are compatible and eligible for the program , provided that they also include an air conditioning function, even if you only use it very little.

    For example :

    • A Fujitsu KZAH R-32 wall-mounted heat pump , which operates at low temperature, provides excellent heating efficiency while being eligible;

    • A Bosch BIVA IDS Premium R-454B central heat pump , often chosen for its exceptional efficiency in heating mode, while also providing air conditioning.

    Even if your primary need is heating, adding integrated air conditioning (even if used infrequently) makes you eligible for the grant, and allows you to benefit from a considerable amount , often more than $1,700 , depending on the model and capacity.

    Real cases of admissible installations with dual use

    At AirGreen , we have carried out dozens of installations eligible for the LogisVert subsidy, even for customers who hardly use air conditioning.

    Example 1: Sainte-Julie – South Shore

    We installed a Gree Extreme 18,000 BTU in a single-family home. The client primarily wanted heating, but we made sure to choose a model that was eligible for air conditioning . The result: a high-performance system, a $1,704 grant, and optimal comfort in the summer when needed.

    Example 2: Laval – Duplex

    In a Laval duplex, a Bosch IDS Premium central heat pump replaced an old oil-fired system. The system now provides both heating and cooling, allowing the homeowner to receive a grant of over $2,000 , while reducing their annual energy costs by nearly 40% .

    What are the risks with a heat pump that does not meet the conditions?

    Installing a heat pump solely for heating, without checking its eligibility, may permanently exclude you from the LogisVert program . In addition:

    • You lose access to the grant ;

    • You will have to bear 100% of the costs ;

    • Hydro-Québec may request a refund if the installation is deemed non-compliant during an inspection.

    Our recommendation at AirGreen

    Before any installation, we analyze:

    • Your real needs (heating, air conditioning, dehumidification);

    • The eligibility of the chosen model (we only work with models approved by Hydro-Québec);

    • The amount of the applicable grant;

    • Compliance with all installation standards (RBQ, efficiency, conformity).

    We guarantee that each eligible installation will be eligible for the LogisVert grant , and we support our customers at every step: selection, installation, documents, photo of the label, sending the request via logisvert.ca, follow-up until payment.

    Practical tips to maximize your LogisVert grant

    • Choose a model that offers heating and air conditioning , even if you only use the heating.

    • Keep all your detailed invoices (purchase and installation).

    • Call an RBQ certified installer .

    • Submit your request within 9 months of installation .

    • Combine several measures (e.g. heat pump + roof insulation with air sealing) to get the 5% multi-measure bonus.

    Conclusion

    A heat pump used solely for heating is not eligible for the LogisVert grant. To qualify for this financial assistance, the system must include an air conditioning function and be used for dual purposes. At AirGreen, we ensure that each project meets the strict criteria of this program to save you money while increasing your comfort.
