Are split-system (multi-zone) heat pumps eligible?

Are multi-zone split heat pumps eligible for the LogisVert program?

As part of our HVAC expertise in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore and the South Shore, a question often comes up among our clients: "Is my multi-zone split-system wall-mounted heat pump eligible for a LogisVert grant ?" The answer is yes , but under certain strict conditions detailed by Hydro-Québec. At AirGreen, we have analyzed the program criteria to provide you with a clear, detailed and useful answer.

Understanding split-system (multi-zone) heat pumps

Definition of a multi-zone system

A multi-zone split heat pump is a system consisting of an outdoor unit connected to several wall-mounted indoor units , allowing multiple rooms to be heated or cooled independently. This type of installation is ideal for multi-story houses or homes where each occupant wants personalized comfort.

Concrete benefits

  • Independent temperature control per zone

  • Reduction of energy consumption

  • Ideal solution for buildings without ventilation ducts

  • Possibility of adapting the power to the needs of each room

Eligibility conditions for multi-zone heat pumps according to LogisVert

    • Used year-round.

  • Mandatory technical requirements:

    • Complete new system, purchased in Quebec.

    • Outdoor unit + one or more wall-mounted indoor units .

    • Presence on the official list of efficient heat pumps approved by Hydro-Québec.

    • Installation carried out by a company with:

      • A valid RBQ license

      • Registration with the Quebec Business Registrar

      • Membership in the appropriate professional association

  • Use for heating and air conditioning (heating only systems not permitted).

  • Not eligible for replacement of partial components (e.g. replacement of a single evaporator or compressor).

  • Replacement of individual components in an old system.

  • Replacement of a defective heat pump covered by warranty.

LogisVert subsidy amounts for multi-zone heat pumps

Multi-zone heat pumps are eligible in two distinct categories:

1. Efficient heat pump (standard or high efficiency)

Amount varies depending on the model and power in BTU/h. The amount is specified in the list of eligible products published by Hydro-Québec.

2. High-efficiency heat pump + caulking work

If the multi-zone system is high efficiency and complete weatherstripping is performed, the amount awarded can be as high as $140 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8°C , which is a significant grant (often between $1,400 and $2,300).

Concrete example of a project carried out by AirGreen

In Repentigny , we recently installed a Fujitsu KZAH R-32 multi-zone heat pump in a two-story home. The client wanted to heat three separate zones: the basement, the living room, and the master bedroom. Thanks to our expertise:

  • We sized the equipment at 27,000 BTU .

  • The installation was completed in 2 days , including performance testing.

  • The grant obtained amounted to $1,764 , increased to $1,852 thanks to the bonus combined with an induction cooker installed in the same project.
