The AH-6xxA air handler: the indoor heart of a ZEPHYR central system.
An electric furnace heats with resistance elements: 1 kWh of electricity gives 1 kWh of heat. TTI publishes no Zephyr furnace: the brand’s indoor unit is the AH-6xxA air handler, paired with the ZE-6xxHPA central heat pump, with optional electric auxiliary heat for deep cold. Here is how they compare, in numbers.
Electricity needed: resistance (100%) against a Zephyr central heat pump (ENERGY STAR COP at -15 °C). AirGreen math.
ENERGY STAR (Oct. 8, 2026); Hydro-Québec LogisVert tool (Oct. 6, 2026).
Resistance or heat pump: how much electricity?
Slide the amount of heat to deliver. We compare an electric furnace (100%, so 1 kWh for 1 kWh) with two Zephyr central units at -15 °C, per their ENERGY STAR COP.
Illustrative math: electricity = heat ÷ COP. Resistance: 100% (US DOE). COP at -15 °C per ENERGY STAR. Cost at Rate D second tier (11.142¢/kWh, beyond 40 kWh per day), before taxes and access fees.
Per the US DOE, resistance heat is 100% efficient, but a heat pump easily cuts electricity use by 50% compared with it.Source: US DOE Energy Saver, “Electric Resistance Heating”.
The AH-6xxA air handler, part by part.
The air handler pushes air into the ducts, holds the heat pump’s evaporator and can take electric auxiliary heat. Tap the numbers.
Numbers from the Zephyr “AH-6__A” manual (p. 12), which lists 18; the knock-outs (Nos. 9 and 10) and the air outlet (No. 11) are not shown here. Simplified drawing. The air filter is not factory installed.

Simulate a leak in the air handler.
With R-454B, an A2L refrigerant, the AH-6xxA air handler has a detection system. Tap “Leak detected”.
The refrigerant detection sensor (No. 18 in the manual) watches for leaks in the air handler. The indoor unit must stay powered, except for service.

Electric elements, in stages.
Natural Resources Canada describes backup for an air-source heat pump as resistance elements in the ducts or baseboards, switched on in stages as the outdoor temperature drops. Per its sizing guide, no backup is needed if the heat pump covers the design load at the design temperature.

- The AH-6xxA air handler provides for “auxiliary heat (optional)”; its manual contains an electric kit selection table.
- On the R-410A air handler, the 15 and 20 kW kits needed two supply circuits: we check the electrical panel during the visit.
- Forced-air electric systems generally range from 10 to 50 kW, per NRCan (2003).
On the R-410A generation Zephyr air handler, the largest kit, the 21-4245-05, was 20 kW, for the 48K and 60K only, on two circuits.Source: TTI, Zephyr R-410A air handler installation manual (version 2169400, B), electric heat kit table.
The aid comes from the heat pump, not the furnace.
LogisVert funds a complete ENERGY STAR central heat pump, with its indoor unit(s). Here are the Zephyr pairs’ amounts.
- The LogisVert guide v1.10 has no measure for an electric furnace or air handler alone.
- Replacing a single indoor unit is excluded.

What a kWh costs, by rate and time.
In Quebec, an electrically heated home is mostly billed at Rate D. Rate Flex D charges more during winter peak events; Rate DT is for dual energy.
Hydro-Québec, 2026 rate grid. Flex D events: 6 to 10 a.m. or 4 to 8 p.m., from December 1 to March 31, at most 120 hours per winter. Rate DT is for dual-energy systems; a central heat pump can be the electric side.
- Heating can account for up to 80% of a household’s electricity (Hydro-Québec).
- Quebec uses nearly twice as much electricity in winter as in summer (Hydro-Québec).
- The Winter Credit Option has not accepted new customers since March 31, 2026.
On Rate Flex D, a kWh used during a peak event costs 46.463¢, against 4.886¢ for the first off-peak tier in winter.Source: Hydro-Québec, electricity rate grid as of April 1, 2026 (2026G028-2F), and Rate D, Flex D and DT pages, checked Oct. 8, 2026.
Oil and combustion: what the rules say.
Before changing heating appliances, here are the rules that apply in Quebec and a starting point for choosing.

What is written, and what the law says.
TTI does not publish a warranty term online for the series 6 air handler and central unit; we put it on your quote. For a heat pump bought new on or after October 5, 2026, the law adds a 6-year warranty of good working order, counted from delivery.
TTI does not publish a warranty term for this product online (checked Oct. 8, 2026). We write it down on your quote.
For a heat pump or air conditioner bought new from a merchant on or after October 5, 2026, Quebec law adds a free, automatic 6-year warranty of good working order, counted from delivery (Office de la protection du consommateur). Under TTI’s parts policy (v3.4, July 17, 2026), labour to replace a part during that period falls on the installing contractor.
Service or repair by anyone not certified and authorized by TTI (or Kinghome) ends the manufacturer’s conventional warranty (TTI, s. 4.4).
If something breaks, you call the contractor who installed it; they file the claim with TTI.
TTI’s policy asks owners to clean the indoor unit filters at least once a month (s. 6.3).

What people ask us about the air handler, backup heat and electric furnaces.
No question matches. Call us at 514-316-2973.
In its public documents (Oct. 8, 2026), TTI publishes no Zephyr electric furnace. The Zephyr product in this family is the AH-6xxA air handler, with optional electric auxiliary heat, paired with the ZE-6xxHPA central heat pump.
The furnace turns 1 kWh into 1 kWh of heat. A Zephyr central unit gives 2.15 to 2.52 kWh of heat per kWh at -15 °C per ENERGY STAR, and qualifies for LogisVert with the AH-6xxA air handler. If you keep an existing furnace, the ZE-6xxHPA pairs with a cased coil (AHRI 218160013 to 218160016), at lower ratings; the LogisVert amount of that pair has not been verified; we confirm it on the quote.
No: guide v1.10 has no measure for a furnace or air handler alone. LogisVert funds the complete central heat pump, $2,448 to $4,440 for the Zephyr pairs.
We calculate it during the visit. On the Zephyr R-410A air handler, kits ranged from 5 to 20 kW, and the 15 and 20 kW kits needed two circuits. The AH-6xxA has its own selection table.
Because R-454B is an A2L, mildly flammable refrigerant. If the sensor detects a leak, the fan must run and the compressor must stop, per the Zephyr manual.
Since December 31, 2023, it has been prohibited to replace an oil appliance with a fossil-fuel appliance. A central heat pump with electric backup is an option; Chauffez vert has not accepted applications since March 31, 2026.
On Rate D, the same price all day: 7.065¢ then 11.142¢. On Rate Flex D, 46.463¢ during winter peak events.
The AH-6xxA manual states that the air filter is not factory installed: we plan it at installation.
Nine months after installation. Hydro-Québec pays by mail, 10 to 12 weeks after a complete application. The invoice must show the RBQ licence and the AHRI or ENERGY STAR number.
