Sharp CU: four sizes, and a path to multi-zone.
Sharp’s widest wall lineup: 12,000, 15,000, 18,000 and 24,000 BTU/h. From 15,000 up, it heats down to -30°C; the 12,000, down to -27°C. Two sizes come in dark grey, and the 12,000 and 18,000 heads also connect to the CU multi-zone. We install it in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the South Shore and the North Shore.
Where does the CU rank in the cold?
Maximum heating output per unit, at the size shown. -8°C and -15°C: ENERGY STAR (17°F and 5°F). -20°C to -30°C: Sharp submittal sheets, January 2026 (FilterSweep: May 2026; Airest: June 2025). The rank in brackets is the rank at -8°C.
Pick a size, then bring the temperature down.
The CU 12,000 stops at -27°C. The other three hold on to -30°C: the 24,000 still delivers 10,500 BTU/h there.
Maximum heat: Sharp spec sheets (-20°C to -30°C) and ENERGY STAR (-8°C and -15°C). Montreal temperatures: MétéoMédia (2021 and 2025) and 1871-2024 records.

At -8°C, the 18,000 and the 24,000 deliver exactly the same heat.
22,400 BTU/h each at -8°C, and 19,000 at -15°C, according to ENERGY STAR. So they get the same LogisVert amount: $2,688. The 24,000 stands out elsewhere: in cooling (22,000 BTU/h against 18,000) and from -20°C down, where it keeps a lead of 800 to 1,900 BTU/h depending on the temperature.
Heating and cooling in BTU/h: ENERGY STAR (-8°C, -15°C, cooling) and Sharp’s January 2026 spec sheets (-20°C to -30°C).
Up to 20 m between the head and the outdoor unit. And someday, a second room.
7,6 m 3 to 7.6 m: standard length
10 m maximum height difference, according to Sharp.
The CU 12,000 and 18,000 heads also connect to the CU multi-zone, up to three rooms, with 25 m of line per head and 70 m in total. The CU multi-zone is coming soon to AirGreen. CHU units stay single.

At -15°C, every CU gives back more than twice the electricity it uses, as heat.
1 kWh of electricity at -15°C: how much heat?
Electric baseboards: 1 kWh of heat for 1 kWh of electricity · ENERGY STAR cold-climate bar: 1.75
Coefficient of performance (COP) at -15°C according to ENERGY STAR. An electric baseboard turns all its electricity into heat, no more: its COP is 1. For cold-climate certification, ENERGY STAR requires at least 1.75 at this temperature.
23 dB at its quietest, at 12,000 and 15,000 alike.

How Sharp describes its ions
A small electrical discharge produces positive and negative ions surrounded by water molecules.
On a surface, these ions combine into OH radicals.
According to Sharp, these radicals remove hydrogen from surface proteins, which reduces their activity.
CU or CHU: more sizes, or more heat in deep cold?
More sizes and multi-zone on one side; more heat in deep cold on the other.

Several rooms later on? The CU 12,000 and 18,000 heads also connect to the CU multi-zone (AE-X3M24CU), which heats down to -30°C according to Sharp. It’s coming soon to AirGreen.
The CU also comes in dark grey.
Sharp offers its “Dark Gray” finish on the CU 15,000 and CU 18,000. The CU 12,000 and 24,000 are white only.

Same unit, same performance: only the front panel changes. Dark grey is less noticeable on a dark or wood wall.
On airgreen.ca, the dark grey version is listed as “Black”: CU black.
On-screen colours are a guide only: the real shade changes with the room’s lighting.

Sharp made the CU in four sizes so nobody has to force it: we pick the one that fits the room, not the biggest by reflex.

For the same size, the CHU keeps more heat in extreme cold: at -30°C, the CHU 12,000 delivers 9,700 BTU/h, while the CU 12,000 stops at -27°C. The CHU also has a motion sensor and an ion indicator. The CU offers more sizes and its heads work on the multi-zone.
Not when it’s very cold. According to Sharp’s spec sheets, at -30°C the CHU 18,000 delivers 11,800 BTU/h and the CU 24,000, 10,500 BTU/h. At -8°C, they are almost equal.
According to Sharp’s spec sheets, the CU 12,000 heats down to -27°C; the CU 15,000, 18,000 and 24,000, down to -30°C. At -30°C, the CU 24,000 still delivers 10,500 BTU/h.
The CU 12,000 and 18,000, according to Sharp. The AE-X3M24CU multi-zone compressor takes CU heads of 9,000, 12,000 or 18,000 BTU/h; with three rooms, Sharp plans for 9,000 or 12,000 heads.
Yes, the CU 15,000 and CU 18,000 come in dark grey (“Dark Gray” at Sharp, “black” on our site).
According to Hydro-Québec’s tool, checked on October 6, 2026: $1,800 for the CU 12,000, $2,172 for the 15,000, $2,688 for the 18,000 and the 24,000. You must apply within 9 months after installation.
