GENERAL floor-ceiling units: power at the ceiling, without opening it.
Four R-32 Centauri units from 18,000 to 36,000 BTU/h, all 235 mm thick. They fix under the ceiling, blow in four directions and have a High Ceiling Mode. The “floor-ceiling” name comes from the former R-410A universal units, which could also sit on the floor; they are retired.
Under the ceiling, without opening it
The unit is fixed under the ceiling and blows along it. Useful when the ceiling cannot be opened and no wall is free.
At the ceiling, with no ceiling work.
Six facts from GENERAL submittal sheets and pages. Sources are at the bottom of the page.
The current R-32 model mounts on the ceiling only; floor mounting belonged to the former universal units, now retired.
235 mm thick, 1,080 to 1,700 mm long depending on size.
High Ceiling Mode compensates for warm air collecting up high.
Optional drain pump: gravity drainage is possible.
The previous generation heated down to -10 °C; the R-32 Centauri heats down to -21 °C.
GENERAL suggested the universal unit for hallways and beneath stained glass in houses of worship.
Today, on the ceiling.
Choose where you want the unit. The current R-32 units fix to the ceiling only; floor mounting belonged to the R-410A universal units, now retired.

Can the ceiling be opened?
That is the question that settles cassette versus suspended unit.
The ceiling can be opened
| Our advice | The cassette |
| What you see | A grille flush with the ceiling |
| It takes | 245 to 288 mm of space above the ceiling |
| Drain | Built-in pump |
See the cassette page: compact 4-way or circular 360°.
The ceiling cannot be opened
| Our advice | The suspended unit |
| What you see | A 235 mm body under the ceiling |
| It takes | 1.08 to 1.70 m of free length |
| Drain | By gravity, or an optional pump |
Concrete, exposed beams, cathedral ceiling: the suspended unit needs no space above.
Measure the free length.
Slide to your ceiling’s free length, between two beams for example: the tool compares it with each size’s length.
| Free length on the ceiling | |
|---|---|
| R-32 18,000 | 1,080 mm |
| R-32 24,000 and 30,000 | 1,390 mm |
| R-32 36,000 | 1,700 mm |
Body length only, according to the manufacturer; it is 705 mm deep and 235 mm thick. Some clearance is also needed around it: we measure on site.
Same outdoor unit, different efficiency.
On the same Centauri outdoor unit, the suspended unit beats the ducted unit on SEER2 and trails the circular cassette. The LogisVert amount stays the same.
