Quick facts
Three tons of central air for the house and its basement, in an economy version
Who it is for
The R4A4S36AKANA is the 3-ton (36,000 BTU/h) outdoor unit of the R4A4S series, the economy line from the manufacturer ICP. It suits large single-storey houses whose finished basement serves as a family room or office, and split-level houses served by a single duct system. On R-410A, with a single-stage scroll compressor, it cools only. It is available while supplies last.
Like any split central air conditioner, it works with an indoor section: a coil on the electric furnace or a fan coil. The manufacturer's capacity tables are built with the EVD4X37M21A1E section.
The numbers for this size, unrounded
The R4A4S series is advertised up to 16.0 SEER2, but for the 3-ton size, the spec sheet publishes 13.4 to 15.0 SEER2 depending on the matched indoor section. The condensing unit alone has no certified rating. We would rather give you the range that actually applies to your unit.
The published sound power is 75 dBA. For the electrical side, plan a 208/230 V single-phase circuit with a 16.4 A minimum ampacity and a 25 A maximum time-delay fuse or breaker. The piping connects to a 7/8 in vapor valve and a 3/8 in liquid valve; if you are replacing an old unit, we check the diameter and condition of the lines in place before reusing them.
You will see the Maratherm name on the spec sheet: it is the brand under which ICP publishes the R4A4S documentation. The ICP limited warranty certificate does cover the series. Finally, remember that this condensing unit does not heat and, sold alone, is not eligible for the LogisVert grant.

- Refrigerant recovery and removal of the old unit, where applicable;
- Setting the R4A4S36AKANA, piping, evacuation and charge adjustment;

In a house with a finished basement, balancing matters: the lower rooms stay cool naturally, the upper ones heat up. We check the registers and the return air so comfort is even everywhere. We install in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore and on the South Shore.

Frequently asked questions
Isn't the R4A4S series advertised up to 16.0 SEER2?
Yes, for the series as a whole. For the 3-ton size, the manufacturer's spec sheet publishes 13.4 to 15.0 SEER2 depending on the matched indoor section. That is the range that applies to your unit.
Is my current piping suitable?
This size uses a 7/8 in vapor valve and a 3/8 in liquid valve, and its rating is established with those diameters over 25 ft. We check the diameter and condition of your lines before proposing to reuse them.
What electrical circuit is needed?
A 208/230 V single-phase circuit with a 16.4 A minimum ampacity and a 25 A maximum time-delay fuse or breaker, according to the spec sheet.
Does this air conditioner heat?
No. It cools only, and sold alone it is not eligible for the LogisVert grant. A central heat pump can heat and cool; we can compare the two.
What is the manufacturer's warranty?
The ICP limited warranty certificate, which covers the R4A4S series, provides 10 years on parts for the original owner with registration within 90 days of installation, otherwise 5 years; it states that this registration condition does not apply in Quebec. Subsequent owners: 5 years. Labour is not covered by the manufacturer.
