What the D5FUAAH18XAK is

In a central system, the outdoor unit produces the heat or cooling, but it is the air handler, indoors, that transfers it to the air and distributes it through the ducts. Arcoaire’s D5FUAAH18XAK plays that role for a 1.5-ton system. It is sold alone, without an outdoor unit: it is used to complete a system or replace an existing air handler, after the match is checked.

With a published airflow of 577 CFM, this size suits small spaces: a condo, an apartment with ductwork, a well-insulated ground floor.

Its place in a condo or small dwelling

In condos in Montreal and the surrounding area, the mechanical space often comes down to a hallway closet. The D5FUAAH18XAK is 45.00 in high, 17.52 in wide and 21.02 in deep, the smallest footprint in the series, shared with the 2-ton size. We add the service clearance the manufacturer requires to these dimensions before confirming that it fits.

Its power supply is another advantage for small dwellings: the cabinet accepts 115 V or 208/230 V, single phase. At 115 V, the minimum circuit ampacity is 5.5 A; at 208/230 V, 4 A, with a 15 A maximum overcurrent protection in both cases. Depending on the state of your panel, either option can simplify the connection.

Before ordering: the match

An air handler sold alone must be compatible with the outdoor unit, refrigerant included. The confirmed data for this model does not name a specific outdoor unit or an electric heat option. We therefore check the model number of your heat pump or air conditioner, and the 3/8 in (liquid) and 3/4 in (suction) connections, before any order. If your old air handler included electric backup heat, we take it into account in the quote.
