Quick facts
The 2-ton size for the forced-air bungalow
A bungalow, ductwork, a 2-ton air handler
The postwar Québec bungalow has often kept its original ductwork. When it is time to replace the air handler in the basement, or to add a central heat pump to cool in summer and heat more efficiently in winter, the 2-ton size comes up regularly in our calculations. Arcoaire’s FJMA4X24L0BC is that size in the FJMA4X series: a 24,000 BTU/h air handler that moves air through the house while the outdoor unit produces the heat or cooling.
In Laval as in Longueuil, many of these single-storey houses have a finished basement where the air handler sits in a small mechanical room. Replacing it with a correctly sized unit often means the existing ducts can be kept, after a check.
The figures that matter when choosing
Arcoaire publishes a nominal airflow of 700 CFM for this model. That is the figure we compare with the capacity of the ductwork and return air: ducts that are too narrow make the system noisy, well-matched ducts keep it quiet.
On the electrical side, the load stays modest: 3.6 A minimum circuit ampacity, 15 A maximum overcurrent protection, at 208/230 V single phase, 60 Hz. The liquid connection is 3/8 in (9.5 mm) inside diameter. The cabinet is 49-5/8 in high, 17-5/8 in wide and 22-1/16 in deep; in a low basement, the height and the plenum space are checked first.
What the air handler does not include
The FJMA4X24L0BC is sold alone. The outdoor unit is not included: we choose a 2-ton central heat pump or central air conditioner with you from the manufacturer’s matches. Sold alone, the air handler does not qualify for the LogisVert grant; the grant follows the certified outdoor unit + air handler pair, and we check eligibility when the quote covers the complete system.
No heater kit is described for this model in the data we verified. If you want electric backup heat for the coldest days, we confirm the compatible kit before ordering.
How we install it
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years. We hold RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work, so we make all the connections ourselves. The on-site estimate is free: we measure the space, look at the ducts and the panel, then give you a written quote.
On installation day, our technicians remove the old air handler, install the new one, adapt the plenum, connect the refrigerant piping and the condensate drain, pull a vacuum and make the electrical connection, then commission the system with you. We install in Montreal, on the South Shore, on the North Shore and throughout Greater Montreal.

The indoor cabinet of a 2-ton central system
The FJMA4X24L0BC is the indoor section of a split central system: it moves air through the home’s ductwork while the outdoor unit produces the heat or cooling. Arcoaire publishes 700 CFM nominal for this size.
- Bungalows and single-storey houses with ductwork
- Replacing a worn-out 2-ton air handler without redoing the ducts
- Adding a 2-ton central heat pump to a house that already has ductwork
- Plex units with their own forced-air system

Frequently asked questions
Can I keep my existing ducts?
Often, yes. During the estimate we check that the existing system can carry the air handler’s 700 CFM nominal and that the return air is sufficient.
Is the outdoor unit included?
No. The air handler is sold alone. We choose a 2-ton central heat pump or central air conditioner with you from the matches the manufacturer publishes.
How much room do I need?
The cabinet is 49-5/8 in high, 17-5/8 in wide and 22-1/16 in deep. Add the plenum, the duct connections and the service clearance Arcoaire requires.
Is there a grant?
Not for the air handler sold alone. Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert grant follows a certified outdoor unit + air handler pair; for a complete system, we check eligibility in the quote.
