What the FXM4X1800AL is and who it suits
The FXM4X1800AL is the indoor part of a central system: a cabinet that holds the blower, the coil and the expansion valve. The outdoor unit, heat pump or air conditioner, sends it refrigerant; the cabinet turns that energy into warm or cool air and distributes it through your ducts. It does not produce heat on its own until a heater kit is added.
This 1.5-ton size is aimed at smaller spaces: a bungalow, a condo with ductwork, a well-insulated ground floor. It mainly suits homeowners whose R-410A air handler has failed while the outdoor unit still works, and contractors looking for a same-capacity replacement. The model is available while supplies last.
How it fits a Québec home
In our homes, the air handler often ends up in a corner of the basement, at the back of a closet or lying in a service space. The FXM4X handles all three: it installs upflow or horizontal left with no modification, horizontal right with a minor modification, and downflow with a conversion kit.
For winter, the cabinet can take electric backup heat. Arcoaire lists three kits for this size, 5, 8 or 10 kW, sold separately. We choose the right one based on the capacity of your electrical panel and the role the backup must play when the heat pump slows down in extreme cold.
The constant-torque ECM motor has five speed taps. At commissioning, we select the one that suits your ductwork instead of leaving the factory setting.

We start with a free on-site estimate. We note the model of your outdoor unit, the condition of the ducts, the space available and the power supply, then we provide a written quote. If the FXM4X1800AL does not suit your outdoor unit, we tell you before ordering.
On installation day, our technicians remove the old cabinet, set the new one, connect the refrigerant line set, the drain and the power supply, add the heater kit if it is part of the project, then commission the system and check the airflow. Our RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 covers ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work: one team handles everything.

The indoor cabinet of a small R-410A central system
The FXM4X1800AL carries refrigerant from the outdoor unit through its aluminum coil and pushes conditioned air into the ductwork. It installs vertically or horizontally, which makes replacements easier in a basement, a closet or a service space.

What to know before installing

- The heating element is not included. For this size, Arcoaire lists the EHK05 (5 kW), EHK07 (8 kW) and EHK10 (10 kW) kits, sold separately; no 15 kW or larger kit is listed.
- 208/230 V single-phase, 60 Hz power supply. For the fan coil alone: 3.5 A minimum circuit ampacity, 15 A maximum overcurrent protection. With a heater kit, follow the values on the rating plate.
- Plan room for a 49-5/8 x 17-5/8 x 22-1/16 in cabinet (H x W x D), plus the service clearance the manufacturer requires.
- Horizontal-right installation requires a minor modification; downflow requires a conversion kit sold separately.

Is this model still available?
Yes, while supplies last. If the FXM4X1800AL is no longer available when your project starts, we propose a replacement air handler that is compatible with your outdoor unit.
Is electric heat included?
No. The fan coil has no heating element. For this size, Arcoaire lists the EHK05 (5 kW), EHK07 (8 kW) and EHK10 (10 kW) kits, sold separately.
Which outdoor unit does it work with?
The manufacturer’s data sheet does not name a specific outdoor unit for this model. It is a 1.5-ton R-410A cabinet: send us the model number of your heat pump or air conditioner and we check compatibility before ordering.
Does this air handler qualify for a grant?
Not when it is sold alone. Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert grant follows a certified outdoor unit + air handler pair. For a complete system, ask us for a quote.
What warranty does Arcoaire provide?
For this model, Arcoaire prints a 5-year No Hassle replacement limited warranty and a 5-year parts limited warranty, extended by 5 years on parts with timely registration, for residential use.
Can you install it?
