What the BVA-24WN1-M15 is

The BVA-24WN1-M15 is the 2-ton (24,000 BTU/h) air handler of Bosch’s BVA 15 series. It combines the blower and the R-410A coil in one cabinet, and Bosch designs it for its BOVA M15-series inverter heat pump, on the IDS 1.0 Plus platform. Installed indoors, it distributes through the ducts the heat or cooling produced by the outdoor unit.

Bosch offers two 2-ton air handlers in this family: this one, with a PSC motor, and the BVA-24WN1-M18, with an ECM motor, available while supplies last. The PSC or ECM tag in the series selector tells them apart.

Its real strength: position

The cabinet ships in upflow or horizontal right position and converts on site to horizontal left or downflow. For a Québec home, that flexibility matters. In a Longueuil bungalow with no basement room, it can lie in a crawl space; in a Montreal condo, it stands upright in a closet. Allow 46-1/2 in of height, 19-5/8 in of width and 21-5/8 in of depth for the cabinet, plus the plenum.

The PSC motor offers three speeds: 743, 958 or 1,107 SCFM, with medium as the factory setting. Bosch publishes 62, 59 and 55 dB(A) depending on speed. The 18 x 20 in filter rack is integrated and opens without tools, which makes routine maintenance easier.

Electrical and backup heat

Without a heater kit, the air handler needs a 2 A minimum circuit ampacity and 15 A maximum overcurrent protection, at 208/230 V single phase, 60 Hz. For electric backup heat in extreme cold, Bosch lists three kits for this size: EHK-05B (5 kW), EHK-08B (7.5 kW) and EHK-10B (10 kW). The EHK-15B and EHK-20B are not available for size 24. The kit is sold separately; we choose it based on the house and the panel capacity.

The air handler is sold alone. The spec sheet does not name the exact outdoor model: we confirm the match before ordering. Sold alone, it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant, which follows the certified outdoor unit + air handler pair.

What the installation covers
