The SENVILLE R454B 3-Zone Heat Pump | 27000 BTU is intended for properties where a single wall-mounted unit cannot provide satisfactory air distribution, but installing three outdoor condensers would be unnecessarily cumbersome. For a home in Montreal, a duplex in Laval, a condo on the South Shore, a floor with several bedrooms in Longueuil or a residence on the North Shore, the principle is simple: three indoor zones can be controlled from a single outdoor unit.
The core of this configuration is the SENVILLE SENA-28HF-MOA condenser, using R454B refrigerant and capable of operating in heating mode down to -30 °C. For the TripleZone match that interests us here, the certified reference is AHRI 215735314.
This AHRI number is particularly important because the same SENA-28HF-MOA condenser can be used in several multi-zone configurations. The AHRI certificate for the TripleZone match specifically indicates 27,000 BTU/h for cooling, 23.0 SEER2, 12.5 EER2, 27,000 BTU/h nominal heating capacity and 10.5 HSPF2 for Region IV.

An important clarification about the attached brochure: same condenser, different configuration
The documentation provided with this listing clearly illustrates why you need to look beyond the condenser number.
The attached brochure shows the SENA-28HF-MOA in a DoubleZone configuration, with two 12,000 BTU indoor units. It also indicates that this outdoor platform can support 2 to 4 zones.
For this DoubleZone configuration, the brochure lists 28,000 BTU and an efficiency rating of 23.8. For the TripleZone configuration covered in this article, AHRI match 215735314 is instead certified at 27,000 BTU and 23.0 SEER2.
Senville also officially markets this platform in a Tri-Zone configuration, with three indoor units, a nominal capacity of 27,000 BTU and an efficiency rating of 23 SEER2.
This distinction helps avoid a common error when comparing multi-zone heat pumps: mixing data from the same condenser used with different combinations of indoor units.

Senville’s platform documentation also confirms a minimum operating temperature of -30 °C, a 120.61 oz R454B charge, a 208/230 V power supply, an MCA of 30 A, and a maximum protection of 35 A.
Three zones do not mean three completely independent heat pumps
A TripleZone heat pump has three indoor units, but they all share the same outdoor compressor.
Each zone can have:
- its own setpoint temperature;
- its own fan speed;
- its own schedule;
- its own location;
- its own airflow.
This makes it possible, for example, to install one head in the primary bedroom, a second in an office, and a third in the living area.
However, all available capacity comes from the same SENA-28HF-MOA condenser.
This is an important distinction in our sizing work at AirGreen. We do not calculate three rooms separately and then simply add three BTU figures without considering how the system performs as a whole.
Simultaneous needs matter.
A heavily glazed south-facing living room may require substantial cooling at 4 p.m., while a north-facing bedroom may require very little. Conversely, a winter night can create high demand in several zones at the same time.
The Inverter technology then adjusts the compressor’s operation and distributes its available capacity among the units that need it.
A modulation range suited to multi-zone systems
Senville’s current TripleZone page indicates an approximate cooling range of 7,200 to 37,000 BTU/h and a heating range of approximately 8,400 to 36,000 BTU/h.
This modulation is particularly useful in a three-zone installation.
A multi-zone heat pump almost never operates with exactly the same demand in all three rooms.
In a home in Boucherville, for example, the ground floor may receive plenty of sunlight during the day while two upstairs bedrooms are already comfortable. The system can adjust its operation rather than treating all three zones identically.
This is one of the main advantages of a properly sized multi-zone system: we bring heating and cooling output closer to the actual needs of each space.
23 SEER2: high efficiency for a three-zone configuration
The 23.0 SEER2 rating deserves particular attention.
A multi-split system involves more piping and must distribute its capacity among several indoor units. Achieving seasonal efficiency of this magnitude on a TripleZone system is therefore a notable advantage.
The AHRI certificate precisely confirms this 23.0 SEER2 for pairing 215735314.
Senville also presents its Tri-Zone system as ENERGY STAR-certified, with smart control and heating down to -30 °C.
Nevertheless, we avoid turning this figure into a promise of annual savings.
Two installations using exactly the same heat pump can show very different energy consumption.
The most important factors remain:
- insulation;
- solar exposure;
- the requested temperature;
- actual use of the three zones;
- window quality;
- air infiltration;
- the length of the lines;
- the sizing of each indoor unit;
- the quality of the commissioning.
30,000 BTU at -8 °C: why this figure is particularly interesting in Quebec
The system’s nominal capacity is 27,000 BTU, but the model data indicate approximately 30,000 BTU/h of heating at -8 °C.
This may seem counterintuitive, but an inverter compressor can be certified at different operating points with capacities that do not necessarily follow a simple downward line.
At -15 °C, the indicated capacity remains approximately 27,000 BTU/h.
For a TripleZone heat pump, maintaining this capacity is particularly interesting, since several zones may call for heating simultaneously.
It is precisely at these temperatures of -8 °C to -15 °C that we can truly assess a heat pump’s potential to reduce the operation of electric baseboard heaters in a Greater Montreal home.
At -30 °C, the unit still operates, but its capacity is different
The SENVILLE is designed for heating down to -30 °C. The platform brochure confirms this outdoor limit.
However, the maximum published capacity at this temperature is approximately 14,000 BTU/h, with a COP of around 1.26.
This means two things.
First, the system remains capable of producing heat under conditions in which many standard heat pumps are no longer designed to operate.
Second, you must never confuse “operates at -30 °C” with “provides 27,000 or 30,000 BTUs at -30 °C.”
At AirGreen, we compare this available capacity with the building’s heat loss.
If the property loses 25,000 BTU/h at -30 °C and the heat pump provides only 14,000, supplemental heating is still needed to cover the difference.
COP of 2.36 at -8 °C: understanding this figure simply
The COP compares delivered heat with electricity consumed.
A system with a COP of 2.36 theoretically provides approximately 2.36 units of heat for each unit of electrical energy consumed by the heat pump under the corresponding test conditions.
At -30 °C, the COP drops to around 1.26.
This decrease is normal.
The compressor has to work harder when the difference between the outdoor and indoor temperatures becomes very large.
We therefore consider performance at multiple temperatures rather than relying on a single annual figure.

Three heads solve a real air-distribution problem
One of the best use cases for a TripleZone heat pump is a condo or house with several rooms that do not communicate well with one another.
Consider a property with:
- a living room;
- a primary bedroom;
- a closed office.
Even a very large wall-mounted unit installed in the living room will not be able to properly control the other two rooms when their doors are closed.
Adding more BTUs to the living room does not solve this problem.
With three indoor units, each zone receives its own heated or cooled air directly.
This is one of the main reasons we sometimes recommend a multizone system rather than a higher-capacity single-split system.
An AirGreen experience in Ahuntsic-Cartierville: three zones and a flat roof
In July 2026, our AirGreen team completed a TripleZone installation in Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Montreal, with three indoor units and a single condenser installed on a flat roof.
This project clearly illustrates the constraints of a real three-zone system: the condenser had to be securely installed on a support suitable for the roof, the refrigerant line runs had to serve several areas of the building, and future access for maintenance had to remain possible.
The evacuation and commissioning equipment was still visible in the site photos, illustrating a step the client generally does not see after the work is completed but that directly affects system reliability: refrigeration preparation before startup.
The project involved a GREE heat pump rather than a Senville, but the installation challenge is directly comparable: three zones mean more piping, more connections, and more decisions about routing.
The same outdoor unit can serve 2 to 4 zones
The Senville brochure clearly states that the SENA-28HF-MOA supports 2 to 4 zones.
For a homeowner, this flexibility can be appealing.
However, this does not mean that a fourth head can always be added without reevaluating the system.
We must verify:
- the allowable capacities of the indoor units;
- the combination authorized by Senville;
- the total connected BTUs;
- the number of available ports;
- the length limits;
- the applicable AHRI match;
- the impact on the rebate and certified efficiency.
The TripleZone configuration in this article must therefore be considered its own certified system, even though it uses the same condenser as other Senville products.
100 feet of R454B precharge: a real advantage for three refrigerant line runs
The brochure indicates a refrigerant precharge capable of covering up to 100 ft on the SENA-28HF-MOA platform.
Senville specifies the same precharge for the Tri-Zone version currently on the market.
This feature becomes especially significant when there are three indoor units.
One head may be close to the condenser, while another may be located on the opposite floor of the property.
Nevertheless, we must distinguish between available refrigerant charge and maximum permitted lengths.
The limits for each branch, the combined length, and the height differences must always comply with the installation manual.
1/4 in – 3/8 in piping: check each indoor unit
The AirGreen specifications indicate 1/4 in – 3/8 in connections for the wall-mounted units concerned.
In a three-zone system, this means three pairs of pipes to route between the indoor units and the condenser.
On a brick property in Montreal, we can sometimes group part of the piping in the same exterior line set cover.
In a home on the South Shore, two units may be installed on one side of the building and a third on another wall.
Every project therefore completely changes the refrigerant piping route.
That is also why the price of a TripleZone installation depends on more than just the price of the heat pump. Line length, height, penetrations, drains, line covers, and access affect the actual work.
R454B: more connections mean more reasons to take care during commissioning
The system contains approximately 120.61 oz of R454B in the platform configuration presented in the brochure.
R454B belongs to the A2L category.
Senville also highlights self-diagnostics and leak detection features in this generation of systems.
For a TripleZone installation, we have more refrigerant connections than with a single-split system.
Each connection must therefore be prepared carefully.
Our commissioning includes checking the connections, leak testing, evacuation, and operational testing of each zone.
An outdoor unit weighing nearly 170 lb
The condenser measures approximately:
37.24 in × 16.14 in × 31.89 in
and weighs approximately 168.43 lb.
Its published sound level is approximately 61 dB(A).
This weight changes how we prepare the support.
For a ground installation, we must maintain adequate clearance above the snow.
On a flat roof, stability, access, load distribution, and membrane protection become priorities.
For a wall-mounted installation, we check the structure and the possible transmission of vibrations.
30 A MCA and 35 A MOP: plan the electrical work from the time of the quote
The manufacturer states:
- power supply 208/230 V;
- 30 A MCA;
- maximum protection of 35 A.
We therefore inspect the electrical panel before finalizing the project.
This step prevents discovering on the morning of installation that the panel lacks the required space, circuit, or configuration.
Wi-Fi included: especially convenient with three zones
Senville provides smart app control and Alexa compatibility across its current TripleZone lineup.
With a three-indoor-unit system, the benefit is obvious.
A homeowner can create different schedules for:
- the bedroom;
- the office;
- the living room.
It is not necessary to keep all three zones at the same temperature all day.
This room-by-room control is one of the main advantages of a multi-zone system.
LogisVert: why the displayed amount is $3,600
The important data point for the LogisVert program is the heating capacity at -8 °C, namely 30,000 BTU/h for the pairing presented.
Hydro-Québec currently indicates assistance of $120 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C for an ENERGY STAR cold-climate-rated heat pump when all conditions are met.
The calculation is therefore:
30 × $120 = $3,600
This corresponds to the $3,600 LogisVert provincial rebate indicated for this system.
The installation date remains important, since Hydro-Québec specifies that the applicable amount is determined according to the rules in effect on that date.
Some multi-unit residential buildings could theoretically receive $6,600
For certain eligible multi-unit residential buildings, an additional bonus of $100 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C is offered for eligible installations completed since June 15, 2026, bringing the total rate to $220 per 1,000 BTU/h.
With 30,000 BTU/h:
30 × $220 = $6,600
This amount is not automatic. The building must meet the program’s specific criteria.

Warranty: a difference that must be clarified before the sale
The AirGreen specification sheet provided for this configuration indicates a warranty 10-10-0, with the possibility of additional warranty coverage.
However, the attached Senville brochure indicates 10 years on the compressor and 5 years on parts for the SENA-28HF-MOA platform.
The current Senville TripleZone page also displays a ten-year manufacturer’s warranty on the compressor and five years on parts.
The documents therefore do not present exactly the same coverage.
The warranty applicable to the customer must be the one specified on the final AirGreen quote, taking into account the warranty program, registration, and any additional protection offered.
Mistakes we avoid on a TripleZone installation
Choosing three units solely by adding up their BTUs
Each room has its own heating load. Three zones with equal floor areas do not necessarily require three identical capacities.
Installing the heads where the piping is easiest to route
The airflow should first be directed toward the space we want to treat. An attractive duct cover does not compensate for poor indoor-unit placement.
Forgetting that the three zones share the condenser
A TripleZone offers three indoor controls, but the outdoor capacity remains shared.
Mixing up DoubleZone and TripleZone data
The SENA-28HF-MOA can display 23.8 in one configuration and 23.0 SEER2 in the AHRI TripleZone pairing 215735314.
Neglecting the outdoor unit's location
With three zones relying on a single condenser, snow, defrost drainage, vibrations, and service access must be anticipated from the outset.

This configuration is particularly suitable when a homeowner wants to serve three truly distinct spaces with a single condenser.

- two bedrooms and a living room;
- a ground floor and two upstairs rooms;
