GENERAL AIRSTAGE CENTAURI 30,000 BTU Ceiling Cassette Heat Pump: one cassette in the middle of an open-plan office

Ten to fifteen workstations in pods, a row of windows on one side, the meeting room and the kitchenette on the other: that is the typical open-plan layout of a small business office, and it is the layout for which we propose the GENERAL AIRSTAGE CENTAURI 30,000 BTU, installed on its own in the middle of the ceiling. Under that name, you get the ceiling cassette AUUH30KUAS, the outdoor unit AOUH30KUAS1 and the AHRI certificate 215434554 of the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE CENTAURI 30,000 BTU, with the same certifications and the same warranty, namely 12 years for the compressor as for parts and 6 years for labour. The manufacturer has not changed either; it has simply carried the name GENERAL Inc. since January 1, 2026.

The idea fits in one sentence: rather than hanging several wall units along the partitions, each with its own line and drain, you bring comfort together in a single indoor unit at the heart of the room. Fewer holes through the building envelope, a single outdoor unit to place, a single maintenance point, and walls that stay free for screens, whiteboards and filing cabinets.

GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine

In August 2025, Paloma Rheem Holdings, which has owned Rheem since 1988, acquired Fujitsu General; the GENERAL Inc. name took effect the following January 1. Nothing else moved: the Kawasaki head office and R&D centre in Japan, the factories, the AIRSTAGE model numbers and the warranty program have all stayed the same. Canadian sales have gone through Rheem Canada since February 2026, and we still buy from Groupe Master. The GENERAL trademark, for its part, has been in use since 1946; the company, founded in 1936, marks the 90th anniversary of its founding in 2026.

While the Fujitsu logo is being phased out, both names coexist on the same machine. Both product pages therefore stay online: if your architect or your building manager refers to Fujitsu, you will find the identical unit under the other name. The table sets the two versions side by side.

Product pageThis pageFujitsu AIRSTAGE CENTAURI 30,000 BTU

The version sold under the former name is here: Fujitsu AIRSTAGE CENTAURI 30,000 BTU, large format. Both pages refer to the same AHRI certificate.

A single cassette can serve an entire open-plan area because of the way it blows. It takes air in through the middle of its grille and pushes the treated air out through several sides at the same time, sending it gliding along the ceiling. Its airflow, up to 942 CFM, thus leaves in several directions: the CENTAURI mixes the whole volume of the room instead of serving only the wall a unit would be hung on. Placed in the centre, it puts every workstation at a comparable distance from the source: nobody inherits the seat under the jet, and nobody inherits the one that stays lukewarm.

In an office, the noise that bothers people is the noise they notice during a phone call or a video meeting. The indoor unit ranges from 33 dB(A) at low speed to 40 dB(A) at full speed: at low speed, it gets lost in the background of keyboards and conversation; at high speed, on a July afternoon, it remains a steady breath of air. The outdoor unit, at 55 dB(A), goes on the roof or on the ground behind the building, away from windows that open.

An occupied office produces its own heat. Computers, screens, lighting and the people themselves give it off all day, and the row of windows adds more as soon as the sun comes around. So the summer numbers carry a lot of weight here: the SEER2 of 22.4 measures cooling consumption over the season, and the EER2 of 12.5 measures efficiency in high heat, when everyone is in. Dehumidification of up to 6.3 pints/h keeps the air dry during humid weeks.

In winter, the same unit heats the open-plan area. Under AHRI certificate 215434554, the NEEP database (ashp.neep.org) lists the following certified values: 21,200 BTU at −8 °C as the reference capacity, with a COP of 3.17; up to 28,000 BTU at −15 °C, with a COP of 2.12; and up to 24,000 BTU at −21 °C, with a COP of 1.88. COP compares the heat delivered with the electricity consumed: at 3.17, the Heat Pump returns more than three times what it draws from the grid, and at −21 °C, the floor of its guaranteed heating, it still returns almost double. The HSPF2 of 10.6 averages out the whole winter; it is the number to look at when estimating a season's heating bill. The model is ENERGY STAR certified for cold climates. With the Wi-Fi option, the Monday morning warm-up can be scheduled so the room is ready when the team arrives.

Before recommending a single cassette, our estimator checks the points that decide everything on site:

  • The shape of the open area: a single continuous floor plan is well served from the centre; an L-shaped or very elongated plan may call for a different layout.
  • The partitions: partitions that go up to the ceiling cut off air circulation; the low panels of workstations do not.
  • The closed offices: those whose door stays shut all day are handled separately, with their own unit.
  • The ceiling: its type, the space available above it and what already occupies it, lighting, detectors, sprinklers.
  • The real load: windows, orientation, number of workstations and equipment; this calculation is what confirms the 30,000 BTU or points to another step in the series.

This CENTAURI's cabinet measures 33.07 × 33.07 × 11.34 in.: this is the large format, wider than the 2 ft × 2 ft cells of a suspended ceiling, and it needs a ceiling cavity deep enough for its height. In a suspended ceiling, we remove the tiles needed, adapt the grid around the unit and secure the unit to the building structure; in drywall, we open to the size of the cabinet and install an access hatch. Above the ceiling, the refrigerant line (3/8 and 5/8 in), the cable and the drain travel to the outdoor unit. Condensate drains by slope or by pump, depending on what the route allows; the quote specifies it, as it does the finishing grille and the control method. A dedicated circuit is set up from the MCA value of 20 A and the MOP value of 25 A. Commissioning (leak test, circuit evacuation, start-up, airflow measurement) is done before the employees return.

For maintenance, a central cassette has a practical advantage: only one unit to look after. The grille gives direct access to the filters; a designated employee cleans them from a stepladder and puts them back once dry. At each maintenance call, our refrigeration technician checks the coil, the condensate pan and drain, the R-32 charge and the outdoor unit. The parts are those of the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE, and we service the unit under both names.

On Hydro-Québec's LogisVert list dated October 27, 2026, this model may qualify for $2,544. For an office, it all depends on the building and on the person applying; we review both points with you before including the amount in the calculation. When it applies, it appears in the quote, and the invoice identifies both units and their AHRI certificate.

This cassette is made for the accounting firm, the engineering firm, the agency or the small business office that occupies a single continuous open-plan area, under a ceiling able to take the large format. The owner of an office building who is renovating a floor also comes out ahead, with one unit per area rather than a series of wall units to maintain.
