GENERAL AIRSTAGE CENTAURI 42,000 BTU Ceiling Cassette Heat Pump: for a workout studio, between heavy load and dehumidification
Halfway through a spin class, the mirrors fog up and the air turns heavy: a room full of people working out produces heat and humidity faster than almost any other room. For these rooms, we propose the GENERAL AIRSTAGE CENTAURI 42,000 BTU. It is the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE CENTAURI 42,000 BTU under the name of GENERAL Inc., the manufacturer's corporate name since January 1, 2026: identical ceiling cassette AUUH42KUAS, outdoor unit AOUH42KUAS1 and AHRI certificate 215812200, the same certifications, and a warranty that covers the compressor and parts for 12 years and labour for 6 years.
In HVAC terms, a workout room is among the most demanding spaces there are. Yoga studio, cycling room or private gym, the demands are much the same: remove a lot of humidity, cool a room that heats up fast, and do it without blowing on someone lying on a mat. The ceiling cassette meets the last demand by its very design; the capacity of the CENTAURI 42,000 BTU, a 3.5-ton Heat Pump, meets the other two, to be confirmed by the load calculation.
GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine
The name change comes from a transaction, not a technical overhaul. Paloma Rheem Holdings, whose ownership of Rheem dates back to 1988, bought Fujitsu General in August 2025, and the new name took effect at the start of 2026. Kawasaki, Japan, is still home to the head office and the research and development centre; the same factories make the same AIRSTAGE products, and the model numbers and the warranty program are unchanged. Rheem Canada has sold these units in the country since February 2026, and we receive them, as before, through Groupe Master. GENERAL has been used as a trademark since 1946; the company, born in 1936, is marking 90 years since its founding in 2026.
For as long as the transition lasts, the same machine may carry either logo on its packaging. So we publish both product pages: the studio owner who received a quote under the Fujitsu name and the one who comes across the GENERAL name can confirm they are talking about the same unit. Here are both versions, next to each other:

The twin page, with its original name, can be found here: Fujitsu AIRSTAGE CENTAURI 42,000 BTU, large-format cassette. Same values, same warranty, same installer.
Let us start with humidity, because it is what makes the difference in a workout room. In dehumidification mode, the CENTAURI 42,000 BTU removes up to 9.3 pints of water per hour. In practice, the air stays fresh during an intense class, fog is slower to form on the mirrors, and the room recovers faster between two groups. All that humidity becomes condensate water, which makes the drain route more important here than elsewhere.
Next comes distribution. Drawn in at the middle of the grille, the air comes back out through several sides at once and travels along the ceiling before settling back down over the room. At a maximum airflow of 1,177 CFM, it mixes the whole room, from the bikes at the back to the mats near the entrance, with no jet aimed at any one person. For a yoga class, that last point matters: lying on the floor, you feel the slightest draft.
Noise is managed according to the class. During a spin session, the music covers everything, and the cassette can run at full speed, at 47 dB(A). During the relaxation at the end of yoga, the fan drops back to 36 dB(A), its lowest speed. Outside, the outdoor unit's 55 dB(A) is handled through placement: behind the premises or on the roof, on the side facing away from neighbouring houses when the site allows.
To cool a room that heats up fast, the EER2 of 10.8 gives efficiency at full load in hot weather, and the SEER2 of 19.0 gives consumption over the whole season. In winter, the same Heat Pump heats the studio, and its certified values, available on NEEP (ashp.neep.org) under AHRI number 215812200, are solid: 32,000 BTU at −8 °C (the test's reference capacity), with a COP of 3.11; up to 37,000 BTU at −15 °C, with a COP of 2.36; and up to 34,200 BTU at −21 °C, the threshold of its guaranteed heating, with a COP of 2.18. COP is simple to read: at 2.18, the Heat Pump provides more than two kilowatt-hours of heat per kilowatt-hour consumed at the coldest point of the test, and more than three at −8 °C. The HSPF2 of 10.4 sums up efficiency over the entire heating season. ENERGY STAR certifies it, cold climate included.
On the job site side, a studio most often occupies a commercial unit. The cassette needs a ceiling to recess into, suspended or drywall, with enough clearance above. If your space has an exposed structure, we discuss it at the visit, because another family of units may then be a better fit. At 33.07 × 33.07 × 11.34 in., the cabinet belongs to the series' large format, which overflows a 2 ft × 2 ft suspended ceiling grid. The rest of the job:
- The drain deserves particular attention, given the amount of water that dehumidification on this scale produces: depending on the route, the water will flow by gravity or go through a condensate pump, and the solution is specified in the quote.
- The 3/8 and 5/8 in refrigerant line runs above the ceiling with the cable to the outdoor unit.
- Power runs through a dedicated circuit, sized for an MCA of 24 A and an MOP of 30 A; we check the premises' electrical service at the visit.
- The quote also confirms the finishing grille and the control method.
- Commissioning includes the leak check, evacuating the circuit, start-up and an airflow reading, followed by a demonstration for your instructors.
In a workout room, the filters work hard: dust, towel fibres, mat particles. They come out through the grille and get washed more often than at home; an instructor can take care of it at the end of the day, from a stepladder. The coil and the condensate pan, heavily used by dehumidification, are on the checklist at every maintenance call by our refrigeration technician, along with the outdoor unit.
As for the grant, Hydro-Québec's LogisVert list of October 27, 2026 assigns $3,840 to this model. Private gym in a house or studio in a commercial unit, eligibility varies with the building and the applicant, and we carry out the check with you. If it applies, the amount appears in the quote, and the invoice mentions both models with their AHRI certificate.
This cassette is intended for the yoga studio, the indoor cycling room, the neighbourhood training centre, the trainer opening their own space and the homeowner setting up a private gym in the basement of a large house. It is a good fit when the room forms a single space and humidity is what clients complain about most. For a larger or partitioned room, our estimator can propose another combination; capacity is always confirmed by a load calculation, never by eye.
