Is it the right size for this room?

Durastar publishes a 250 to 300 sq ft range for this unit. Choose your room's area.

It's the right size.

For a 225 to 280 sq ft room, this is the range Durastar publishes for this unit: 7,200 BTU/h of cooling, 6,200 BTU/h of heat-pump heating and a heater of up to 3,500 W when the cold calls for it.

Application range published by Durastar for each capacity in the lineup. Our estimator confirms the exact area on site.

Bulbs left on day and night for a year. Cooling: 5 h a day for 40 days, the assumption used by Hydro-Québec's air-conditioning calculator. Same calculation for every line: wattage × hours × 11.142 ¢/kWh.

Typical 275 sq ft room with one exterior wall, in Montréal: 1,964 kWh of heat per winter (Environment Canada 1991–2020 climate normals). The heat pump is counted only at 8 °C and warmer, where Durastar rates its output; below that, the heater, at the price of a baseboard. If it keeps heating in colder weather, the bill goes down.

≈ $214 for the year, before tax. Winter is 94% of it. If your home stays in the first tier of Rate D in summer (7.065 ¢/kWh), cooling drops to $7.77.

03 · Good to know

What you should know about this one

Published, verifiable facts, not brochure claims.

7,200What it really delivers in cooling

The name says 7,000 BTU: that's the unit's size class. Durastar publishes 7,200 BTU/h at 230 V, a little more than its size class, and 7,100 at 208 V, the supply in many buildings.

3,500 WThe heater that takes over

The "35" in DRPTHP07Y32351A means a 3.5 kW heater: 3,500 W (10,900 BTU/h) at 230 V, 2,897 W at 208 V, on the 6-20P plug of the LCDI cord supplied. It heats when the heat pump can no longer keep up.

3.6The COP published at 8 °C

Durastar publishes a heat-pump COP of 3.6: 6,200 BTU/h of heat at 230 V. Each kWh you pay for gives back 3.6 in heat, against 1 for the heater or a baseboard.

4 °CBelow 4 °C, the heater takes over

Durastar's manual states it is normal for the heat pump not to run below 40 °F (4 °C) outside: the heater then heats the room. The two never run at the same time.

50.5 dBThe noise at low speed

50.5 dB(A) at low speed, 51 at high speed, as published by Durastar. In a bedroom, that's the number that decides the complaints: the unit runs at night, two metres from the bed.

0.7Pints of water it removes per hour

The dehumidification Durastar publishes in cooling mode: 0.7 pints per hour. It's what keeps a room comfortable in summer without it turning clammy.

61 cfmFresh air through the vent

With the vent open, Durastar publishes 61 cfm of outside air at high speed. Close it to keep all the heat or the cool air in the room.

0 °CRoom freeze protection

In an unoccupied room, Durastar provides automatic freeze protection at 32 °F (0 °C): the fan and the heater restart on their own.

Replacement

It fits the standard wall sleeve

Durastar designs this PTAC for the standard 42 × 16 in wall sleeve; the sleeve and grille are sold separately. Our estimator checks the ones in place before ordering.
