At AirGreen , we were recently called to Outremont , in an apartment typical of residential buildings in the area, to work on an LG wall-mounted air conditioner installed more than fifteen years ago. The customer had noticed that his unit was no longer producing cold air, was giving off a slight odor and was making an unusual vibrating noise.

Step One: Complete Wall-Mounted Air Conditioner Evaluation

Upon our arrival, our RBQ and CCQ certified technician carried out a detailed inspection of the HVAC system .
Initial observations revealed:

  • a dirty heat exchanger ;

  • saturated air filters ;

  • a dirty and slightly misaligned blower motor ;

  • and an electronic card oxidized by humidity accumulation over the years.

This type of situation is common with older wall units that have not received regular maintenance.

Diagnosis: double electrical and mechanical problem

After an electrical test, we found that the compressor start relay was no longer engaging properly. The outdoor compressor was therefore remaining inactive, preventing the production of cold air.
At the same time, the internal fan vibrated strongly , a sign of a mechanical imbalance of the rotor caused by accumulated dust and wear of the bearings.

Steps of repair

Our intervention took place in several phases:

  1. Complete cleaning of the interior system

    • Removing the front panel and filters.

    • Washing the coils with a biodegradable cleaning product specific to HVAC systems.

    • Degreasing and balancing of the blower motor.

  2. Replacing the starter relay and cleaning the control box

    • Installation of an LG relay compatible with the old model.

    • Application of a light anti-corrosion treatment on the electronic board.

  3. Checking the compressor and refrigerant gas

    • Circuit pressure test.

    • Adjustment of the R410A refrigerant level (the customer had already done a partial recharge several years ago).

Result: functional device and extended lifespan

Once the repair was complete, we turned the air conditioner back on. Result:

  • rapid room cooling in less than 10 minutes;

  • operating noise reduced by 70% ;

  • and more even air circulation thanks to the cleaned turbine.

Although the appliance is from an earlier generation, its performance has become completely satisfactory for the customer's needs. However, we recommended that he plan a replacement within 2 to 3 years , in order to benefit from a more energy-efficient model that complies with new environmental standards.
