Quick facts
The LG base pan heater is a 120 W element that sits in the base pan of the outdoor unit. In heating mode, the heat pump regularly defrosts its coil and the water drips into the pan; in extreme cold, that water can freeze there and build up. LG presents it as protection against ice buildup in extreme winter conditions.
Simple protection for Québec winters
The heater's harness plugs directly into the outdoor unit's control board. The element does not turn on when the outdoor temperature is above 32 °F (0 °C): it only works when there is a risk of freezing. LG requires a clearance of at least 1-3/16 in between the element and the fan.
Three models depending on the unit
- PQSH1200: Multi F and Multi F MAX manufactured since May 2015; single-zone vertical air handlers, cassettes and high-static ducted units of 18,000 BTU/h and up manufactured since April 2017; some Multi V S units. LG also lists it for the Multi F MAX KUMXB481A.
- PQSH1202: single-zone cassettes and low-static ducted units of 9,000 and 12,000 BTU/h manufactured since February 2018.
- PQSH1203: Multi F LMU180HV and LMU240HV.
Finding the right number
Note the model and serial number of the outdoor unit. According to LG, the first digit of the serial number gives the year of manufacture and the next two, the month.

No ice in the outdoor unit’s pan

Frequently asked questions
Which heater fits my LG unit?
PQSH1200 covers Multi F and Multi F MAX units built since May 2015 and several single-zone units of 18,000 Btu/h and up. PQSH1202 is for 9,000 and 12,000 Btu/h single-zone cassette and ducted units. PQSH1203 fits the LMU180HV and LMU240HV. Send us the model and serial number and we confirm.
Does it draw power all winter?
No. LG locks it out when the outdoor temperature is above 32 °F (0 °C). The heater is 120 W.
Is it useful if my outdoor drain is well done?
Yes. The pan heater keeps defrost water from freezing in the pan itself, before it ever reaches the drain.
Can you install it?
Yes. We fit it in the pan and connect it to the unit’s board, everywhere in Greater Montréal.
