Quick facts
Hot-water heating and the home’s hot water, in the space of a single water heater
One appliance, two jobs
Thermo 2000’s ComboMax Ultra combines an electric boiler and an instantaneous water heater. The tank holds the heating water, 48 US gal in the 50 model. Parallel copper coils sit in that water: drinking water flows through them and heats up on the way, with no domestic hot water stored. According to the manufacturer, hot water arrives in under 7 seconds, and the absence of storage reduces the risk of Legionella.
The COMBOU50-4,5 is the smallest size in the series: a single 4.5 kW element on one stage, delivering 15,354 BTU/h at 240 V. It suits a condo, a small bungalow or a well-insulated dwelling heated by radiant floors or radiators, where heating needs are modest. Thermo 2000 publishes an output of 50 US gal of hot water in 10 minutes and 72 US gal in one hour, for water delivered at 110 °F, cold water at 40 °F and boiler water at 180 °F.
Why this size slips easily into a local home
In many homes in Montreal and Laval, the mechanical room is just a corner of the basement shared by the water heater, the electrical panel and the washer. The ComboMax Ultra 50 takes the space of a conventional water heater: 60 in high and 22 in in diameter. Replacing a boiler and a water heater with a single appliance frees up room and simplifies maintenance.
On the electrical side, this size asks little: a 30 A breaker and Cu 10 or Al 10 wire at 240 V, according to the manufacturer. If the building is supplied at 208 V, Thermo 2000 states that output is multiplied by 0.75; we take that into account when choosing the size.
The T2 UltraSmart controller manages both functions. It gives priority to domestic hot water, sets its temperature and runs the heating pump when the thermostat calls for heat. The thermostatic mixing valve, pre-mounted at the factory, tempers the water sent to the taps.
What AirGreen’s installation covers
We start with a free in-home estimate, in Longueuil, on the South Shore, the North Shore or elsewhere in Greater Montreal. We check the heating load, the existing system, the electrical panel and the location. You receive a written quote detailing the unit, the loop components and the work.
On installation day, the ComboMax Ultra is set in place, then connected by qualified personnel to the heating loop (1 in male NPT connections) and to domestic water (3/4 in female NPT connections). Most accessories arrive already mounted: pressure regulator with check valve, mixing valve, automatic air vent, temperature and pressure gauge and hot water relief valve. After the electrical connection, the loop is filled and purged, the controller set and hot water output checked.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 (ventilation, refrigeration and electrical).
The warranty published by Thermo 2000
The manufacturer covers the tank and coils for 15 years in residential use, 10 years in commercial use, and electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.
Let’s talk about your project: free estimate, written quote and financing available for your 4.5 kW ComboMax Ultra 50.
Heating the home and making hot water with one appliance
The COMBOU50-4,5 heats the water of a closed loop (radiant floor, radiators) and, in the same tank, heats drinking water as it passes through copper coils. No domestic hot water is stored.
- Condos and small dwellings heated by radiant floors or radiators
- Small, well-insulated houses with modest heating needs
- Replacing an electric boiler and a water heater with a single appliance
- Electrical panels with little capacity left

Frequently asked questions
Does the ComboMax replace my water heater?
Yes, if its hot water output covers your needs. It heats drinking water instantly in copper coils immersed in the heating water. There is no separate water heater any more, and no hot water is stored.
What breaker is needed?
Thermo 2000 specifies a 30 A breaker and Cu 10 / Al 10 wire at 240 V. It is the size in the series that asks the least of the electrical panel.
How much hot water does it make?
According to Thermo 2000: 50 US gal in 10 minutes and 72 US gal in one hour, for water delivered at 110 °F, cold water at 40 °F and boiler water at 180 °F.
How does it differ from the 4.5 kW ComboMax Ultra 70?
The COMBOU70-4,5 has the same heating output but a larger tank that delivers more hot water. It is also taller, wider and heavier. We compare the two with you based on the number of bathrooms and the space available.
What warranty does the manufacturer offer?
Thermo 2000 covers the tank and coils for 15 years in residential use (10 years in commercial use), and electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.
