Quick facts
The largest ComboMax ULTRA: 29 kW of heat and hot water for high demand
The top of the series, and who it is for
Thermo 2000 offers the ComboMax ULTRA from 4.5 to 29 kW. The 29 kW version 70 sits right at the top: six elements, four of 5 kW and two of 4.5 kW, spread over six stages, for 98,948 BTU/h at 240 V. Like the other models in the series, it combines an electric boiler and an instantaneous water heater. The heating water in its 71 US gal tank supplies your radiators or radiant floor, and surrounds copper coils that heat the domestic water as it passes through.
This size is aimed at large homes heated with hot water on several floors, buildings with an extensive radiator system and commercial spaces that need both heating and hot water. Thermo 2000 provides a warranty specific to commercial use.
The right size before the highest output
Bigger does not mean better. A boiler that is too large for the building does not heat any better and requires a larger electrical service. Before choosing 29 kW, we calculate the heat loss of your home or space, then compare the result with the smaller sizes in the series.
The electrical side is part of the same calculation. At 240 V, the appliance draws 120 A; Thermo 2000 specifies a 175 A breaker and Cu 1 or Al 00 wire. In a building in Montreal or Longueuil, this is often the point that decides between this model and a smaller size. At 208 V, output drops according to the factor published by the manufacturer (kW x 0.75).
What Thermo 2000 publishes for hot water
For this model, the manufacturer publishes 97 US gal in 10 minutes and 239 US gal in one hour, at 110 °F, from cold water at 40 °F, with boiler water at 180 °F. Domestic water is never stored, which reduces the risk of Legionella according to Thermo 2000. The thermostatic mixing valve is supplied and pre-mounted, and the T2 UltraSmart controller gives priority to hot water.
Installation by AirGreen
We start with a free on-site estimate, followed by a written quote: chosen output, electrical work, circulator, expansion tank and zones. Our technicians then install the appliance, 70 1/2 in high and 24 in in diameter, connect it to the heating (1 1/4 in NPT) and to the domestic water (3/4 in), make the electrical connection, fill and purge the system, then set the controller with you.
AirGreen, a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. Thermo 2000 warrants the tank and coils for 15 years in residential use, 10 years in commercial use, and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.

What to know before installing
- Large electrical load: 120 A at 240 V, 175 A breaker and Cu 1 / Al 00 wire per Thermo 2000. The electrical service must be checked before ordering.
- At 208 V, the manufacturer says to multiply kW by 0.75 and amps by 0.867.
- A 29 kW output is confirmed by a heat loss calculation of the building: we do it before choosing this size.
- Appliance 70 1/2 in high and 24 in in diameter, weighing 430 lb plus the water in the tank.
- Maximum working pressure of 30 psi (207 kPa) on the heating side and 125 psi on the domestic water side.
- Circulator, expansion tank and zones: defined for your system in the written quote.
- 30 psi heating relief valve
- 125 psi domestic hot water relief valve
- Drain valve (tank and heat exchanger)
- Temperature and pressure gauge
- Automatic air vent
- 12 psi pressure regulator and check valve (ASSE 1012 / CSA B64-3)
- Thermostatic mixing valve
- Heating elements
- UltraSmart controller

Frequently asked questions
Do I really need 29 kW?
Not necessarily. The output is chosen from the building’s heat loss and your hot water needs. The ComboMax ULTRA series runs from 4.5 to 29 kW: during the free estimate, we calculate the right size instead of defaulting to the largest one.
What electrical service is required?
The appliance draws 120 A at 240 V. Thermo 2000 specifies a 175 A breaker and Cu 1 or Al 00 wire. We check your electrical service and note it in the quote, along with any work required.
How much hot water does it make?
According to Thermo 2000, 97 US gal in 10 minutes and 239 US gal in one hour, at 110 °F (cold water at 40 °F, boiler water at 180 °F).
How is the domestic water heated?
It flows through parallel copper coils immersed in the heating water of the tank. A thermostatic mixing valve, supplied and pre-mounted, sets the temperature of the water sent to the taps.
What warranty does Thermo 2000 offer?
The tank and coils are warranted for 15 years in residential use and 10 years in commercial use; the electrical and mechanical components, for 2 years.
