Quick facts
27 kW to heat a large home and make its hot water, without a second appliance
A large home, a single mechanical room
Large homes heated with hot water often pile up appliances: a good-sized electric boiler, one or two water heaters, sometimes a buffer tank. Thermo 2000’s 27 kW ComboMax ULTRA 70 combines the boiler and the water heater in one appliance 70 1/2 in high and 24 in in diameter, built around a 71 US gal tank.
It suits spacious homes in Laval or on the North Shore with radiant floors on several levels, properties with several bathrooms, and small commercial spaces that need both hydronic heating and hot water. Thermo 2000 even provides a separate warranty for commercial use.
Six stages of output and hot water on demand
Six 4.5 kW elements, spread over six stages, heat the tank water and deliver 92,124 BTU/h at 240 V. The output therefore comes on in steps. That heating water supplies your radiant floor zones or radiators, and surrounds parallel copper coils that heat the domestic water as it passes through. Nothing is stored: according to the manufacturer, this reduces the risk of Legionella.
On flow, Thermo 2000 publishes 95 US gal in 10 minutes and 228 US gal in one hour, for water at 110 °F drawn from cold water at 40 °F, with boiler water at 180 °F. The T2 UltraSmart controller gives priority to hot water, runs the heating pump on thermostat demand and groups the settings on a backlit display.
First of all, the electrical service
At this output, the electrical side decides whether the project is feasible. Thermo 2000 specifies a 150 A breaker and Cu 1 or Al 00 wire at 240 V. Many homes in Montreal have a service that does not leave that margin once the range, the dryer and the other loads are counted. We do that calculation during the estimate, before recommending this size over a smaller one.
Our installation, from removal to commissioning
The on-site estimate is free. The written quote that follows specifies the chosen output, the electrical work, the circulator, the expansion tank and the zones to connect. On installation day, our technicians remove the old electric boiler and the water heater, install the ComboMax, connect the heating through the 1 1/4 in NPT connections and the domestic water through the 3/4 in connections, then wire the appliance. They fill and purge the system, set the controller and check the hot water with you.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years; it holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. Thermo 2000 warrants the tank and coils for 15 years in residential use (10 years in commercial use) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.

A large home, one appliance for heat and hot water
The ComboMax ULTRA 70-27 heats the 71 US gal of water in its tank with six 4.5 kW elements. That water supplies the hydronic heating and, through copper coils, makes domestic water on demand.
- Large homes heated by radiant floors or radiators
- Homes where several bathrooms are used at the same time
- Small commercial spaces that need hydronic heating and hot water
- Replacing a high-capacity electric boiler and water heater
Specifications

What to know before installing
- Dedicated 240 V single-phase circuit, with a 150 A breaker and Cu 1 / Al 00 wire per Thermo 2000: the electrical service must be able to carry this load.
- At 208 V, the manufacturer says to multiply kW by 0.75 and amps by 0.867.
- Appliance 70 1/2 in high and 24 in in diameter, weighing 430 lb plus the water in the tank.
- Maximum working pressure of 30 psi (207 kPa) on the heating side and 125 psi on the domestic water side.
- In commercial use, the tank and coil warranty is 10 years according to Thermo 2000.
- The circulator, expansion tank and zones are chosen for the heating system: we specify them in the written quote.
- 30 psi heating relief valve
- 125 psi domestic hot water relief valve
- Drain valve (tank and heat exchanger)
- Temperature and pressure gauge
- Automatic air vent
- 12 psi pressure regulator and check valve (ASSE 1012 / CSA B64-3)
- Thermostatic mixing valve
- Heating elements
- UltraSmart controller

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to upgrade my electrical service?
Possibly. Thermo 2000 specifies a 150 A breaker and Cu 1 or Al 00 wire for this model. During the free estimate, we look at the capacity of your service and the other loads in the house; the quote specifies any electrical work required.
What are the six stages for?
The 27 kW output is spread over six 4.5 kW elements. The stages let the output come on in steps rather than all at once.
How much hot water does it make?
According to Thermo 2000, 95 US gal in 10 minutes and 228 US gal in one hour, at 110 °F (cold water at 40 °F, boiler water at 180 °F). Domestic water is heated on demand in copper coils, with no stored hot water.
Can it be installed in a commercial space?
Yes. Thermo 2000 warrants the tank and coils for 10 years in commercial use (15 years in residential use) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.
Which accessories are supplied?
The 30 psi (heating) and 125 psi (domestic water) relief valves, the thermostatic mixing valve, the pressure regulator with check valve, the air vent, the temperature and pressure gauge, the drain valve and the UltraSmart controller.
