Quick facts
Light heating and plenty of hot water: the 4.5 kW ComboMax Ultra 70
Designed for homes that use a lot of hot water
In the morning, in a family, showers follow one another while the dishwasher finishes its cycle. That is the kind of home where Thermo 2000’s COMBOU70-4,5 stands out. It pairs a single 4.5 kW heating element with the large tank of the ComboMax Ultra series, which holds 71 US gal of heating water. According to the manufacturer, it delivers 73 US gal of hot water in 10 minutes and 95 US gal in one hour, for water delivered at 110 °F, cold water at 40 °F and boiler water at 180 °F.
Drinking water, for its part, is never stored hot. It flows through parallel copper coils immersed in the heating water and heats up on the way. Thermo 2000 states that it arrives hot in under 7 seconds and that this design reduces the risk of Legionella.
On the heating side: 4.5 kW for a home that needs little
The unit delivers 15,354 BTU/h at 240 V, on a single stage. It is a size for a recent or renovated, well-insulated home, or for a specific zone such as a basement heated by radiant floors. The T2 UltraSmart controller runs the heating pump when the thermostat calls and gives priority to domestic hot water when it is being drawn.
The electrical panel is lightly loaded: Thermo 2000 specifies a 30 A breaker and Cu 10 or Al 10 wire at 240 V. At 208 V, output is multiplied by 0.75 according to the manufacturer, which we check before recommending this size.
Taller than the 50: measure before choosing
The large tank needs more room: 70 1/2 in high, 24 in in diameter and 430 lb empty. In a basement in Montreal or Laval crossed by beams and ducts, the clearance matters, and we measure it during the visit. Heating connections are 1 1/4 in male NPT, domestic water connections 3/4 in female NPT.
AirGreen’s installation, from estimate to start-up
The free estimate is done on site, in Longueuil, on the South Shore, the North Shore and throughout Greater Montreal. We assess your hot water needs, the heating load, the panel and the location, then give you a written quote. On installation, the unit is set in place and connected by qualified personnel to the heating loop and to domestic water. The pressure regulator with check valve, the thermostatic mixing valve, the air vent and the temperature and pressure gauge are already factory-mounted, which shortens the work on site. We finish with filling, purging, setting the controller and a hot water test at a tap.
A family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, AirGreen holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 (ventilation, refrigeration and electrical). Thermo 2000 covers the tank and coils for 15 years in residential use (10 years in commercial use) and electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.

More hot water, for a home that needs little heat
The COMBOU70-4,5 pairs a single 4.5 kW element with the series’ large tank. The copper coils immersed in those 71 US gal of heating water heat drinking water as it passes, without storing it.

What to know before installing
- Measure the clearance: the unit is 70 1/2 in high and 24 in in diameter, and weighs 430 lb empty.
- 30 A breaker and Cu 10 / Al 10 wire at 240 V single phase, according to the manufacturer.
- At 208 V, Thermo 2000 states that output is multiplied by 0.75: less heat is then available.
- 1 1/4 in male NPT heating connections and 3/4 in female NPT domestic water connections; max. pressure of 30 psi on the heating side and 125 psi on the domestic water side.
- 30 psi heating relief valve
- 125 psi domestic hot water relief valve
- Tank and heat exchanger drain valves
- Temperature and pressure gauge

Frequently asked questions
Why choose the 70 over the 50 at 4.5 kW?
For hot water. Heating output is the same as the COMBOU50-4,5, but the 71 US gal tank of the COMBOU70-4,5 delivers 73 US gal of hot water in 10 minutes and 95 US gal in one hour (water at 110 °F, cold water at 40 °F, boiler water at 180 °F).
Does hot water run short when the heating is on?
The T2 UltraSmart controller gives priority to domestic hot water. When you open a hot tap, hot water comes first.
Why is it said to reduce the risk of Legionella?
Because no domestic hot water is stored: drinking water is heated as it passes through the copper coils. Thermo 2000 presents this design as a way to reduce that risk.
How much space is needed?
The unit is 70 1/2 in high and 24 in in diameter, and weighs 430 lb empty. We measure the clearance under beams and ducts during the visit.
My home is supplied at 208 V. Is that a problem?
No, but output drops: Thermo 2000 gives a factor of 0.75 on kW at 208 V. We check that the remaining output covers your heating needs.
