Quick facts
A 1.5-ton central air conditioner that cools a smaller home without unnecessary noise
The HSA618GKA: who it is for and why
The HSA618GKA is the outdoor unit of Arcoaire’s HSA6 central air conditioner, the manufacturer’s premium single-stage line. At 1.5 tons (18,000 BTU/h), it suits homes with a modest cooling need: a well-insulated bungalow, a semi-detached house, a plex unit with its own ductwork. It runs on R-410A and uses a single-stage scroll compressor wrapped in a sound blanket.
Arcoaire publishes a sound power of 66 dBA for this size. That is the figure to check when the outdoor unit has to sit near a deck, a bedroom window or the neighbour’s yard. The manufacturer advertises up to 16 SEER depending on the matched indoor unit; this is a SEER rating established before the SEER2 standard came in.
How it fits a home here
A central air conditioner never works alone. The HSA618GKA connects to an indoor coil set on an electric furnace or housed in an air handler, and the cooled air then travels through the existing ductwork. In many homes in the region, the electric furnace is already in place: the coil, the refrigerant lines and the outdoor unit are added without touching the heating.
The HSA6 series is also designed for the Ion communicating control (SYST0101CW, sold separately). With it, the system configures itself. The manufacturer also provides for a non-communicating thermostat, in particular for cooling in cool weather, below 55°F (12.8°C), with the appropriate accessories.
Keep in mind that this unit only cools. It does not replace the heating and, sold alone, it does not qualify for Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert grant. It is available while supplies last, since the HSA6 series is no longer produced.
On warranty, Arcoaire provides a 5-year No Hassle Replacement limited warranty and a 5-year parts limited warranty, compressor and coil included, extended by 5 years with timely registration. The manufacturer’s certificate states that registration cannot be a condition in Quebec.
What installation by AirGreen covers
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. For a central air conditioner, everything starts with a free on-site estimate: we check the capacity the home needs, the condition of the ductwork and the coil to match with your electric furnace or air handler.
On installation day, our technicians:
- set the outdoor unit and the indoor coil;
- install the refrigerant lines within the lengths and metering device the manufacturer requires;
- connect the unit to a circuit protected by a time-delay fuse or breaker of 20 A maximum;
- commission the system and check its operation with you.
We work in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore and the South Shore.
Let’s talk about your home
Send us a photo of your furnace and of the spot planned for the outdoor unit, or ask for a free on-site estimate. You receive a written quote, and financing is available to spread out the payment.
Cooling a smaller home through its ductwork
The HSA618GKA is the outdoor unit of a central air conditioner. It connects to a coil installed on an electric furnace or inside an air handler, and the cooled air then travels through the home’s ductwork.
- Bungalows, semi-detached homes and plex units that already have ductwork
- Adding air conditioning to an existing electric furnace
- Replacing a 1.5-ton central air conditioner at the end of its life
- Homes where the outdoor unit sits near a deck or a bedroom
Specifications
From the manufacturer’s documentation. A value the manufacturer does not publish is not listed.
What to know before installing
- Available while supplies last: the HSA6 series is no longer produced by the manufacturer.
- Cooling only: the unit does not heat. Sold alone, it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- It needs an indoor coil on an electric furnace or an air handler, not included. Actual efficiency depends on that match.
- 208/230 V single-phase circuit: 11.8 A minimum circuit ampacity, 20 A maximum time-delay fuse or breaker.
- The manufacturer requires a TXV beyond 20 ft (6.1 m) of vertical separation or 50 ft (15.2 m) of total length, and long-line accessories beyond 80 ft (24.4 m).
- Cooling below 55°F (12.8°C) requires low-ambient accessories and a non-communicating thermostat.

Frequently asked questions
Can this air conditioner heat the house?
No. The HSA618GKA is cooling only. Heating is still provided by your electric furnace or by an air handler fitted with a heating element.
Does it qualify for the LogisVert grant?
No. A cooling-only unit sold alone does not qualify for Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert grant.
What does "up to 16 SEER" mean?
It is the top rating Arcoaire advertises, and it depends on the matched coil. For this size, the published combination with a *EN(A,D)4X19*17** coil gives 14.5 SEER and 12.0 EER. These SEER ratings predate the SEER2 standard.
What is the manufacturer’s warranty?
Arcoaire provides a 5-year No Hassle Replacement limited warranty and a 5-year parts limited warranty, compressor and coil included, extended by 5 years with timely registration. The certificate states that registration cannot be a condition in Quebec. Labour is not part of the manufacturer’s warranty.
Do I need to buy the Ion control?
No, it is recommended but sold separately. It enables communicating, self-configuring operation. To cool below 55°F (12.8°C), the manufacturer calls for a non-communicating thermostat instead.
