The HSA642GKA in a few words
The HSA642GKA is the outdoor unit of Arcoaire’s 3.5-ton (42,000 BTU/h) central air conditioner in the HSA6 series, the manufacturer’s premium single-stage line. It serves larger homes whose ductwork reaches several floors and many rooms. It runs on R-410A with a single-stage scroll compressor wrapped in a sound blanket, and its outdoor coil is made of copper tubes and aluminum fins painted black.
Worth noting: the reference combination Arcoaire publishes, with a *EN(A,D)4X43*24** coil and a TXV, reaches 42,000 BTU/h at 95°F, with 14.5 SEER and 12.0 EER. The manufacturer advertises up to 16 SEER depending on the matched indoor unit. These SEER ratings predate the SEER2 standard.
The electrical panel, the first thing to check
In an electrically heated home, the panel already supplies the furnace, the water heater and the range. The HSA642GKA needs a 208/230 V single-phase circuit with a 23.4 A minimum circuit ampacity and a time-delay fuse or breaker of 40 A maximum. It is the first thing we look at during the estimate: better to know before ordering the unit.
Outdoors: a tall cabinet on a compact base
The cabinet stands 40-1/8 in high on a 35 x 35 in base and weighs 297 lb for shipping. Clear access for handling is therefore needed. Its published sound power is 68 dBA. To cool below 55°F (12.8°C), the manufacturer requires low-ambient accessories and a non-communicating thermostat; otherwise, the Ion communicating control (SYST0101CW, sold separately) allows self-configuring operation.
Remember that the unit is cooling only and that, sold alone, it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant. It is available while supplies last, as the HSA6 series is no longer produced. Arcoaire provides a 5-year No Hassle Replacement limited warranty and a 5-year parts limited warranty, plus 5 years with timely registration, a condition that, according to the certificate, cannot apply in Quebec.

Arcoaire provides a 5-year No Hassle Replacement limited warranty and a 5-year parts limited warranty, compressor and coil included, plus 5 years with timely registration. The certificate states that in Quebec, registration cannot be a condition. Labour is not part of the manufacturer’s warranty.
