The largest size in the HSA6 series
When the humidex climbs and the afternoon sun hits the big windows, a very large home needs a central air conditioner that can keep up. The HSA648GKA is the 4-ton (48,000 BTU/h) outdoor unit of the HSA6 series, Arcoaire’s premium single-stage line. It runs on R-410A, with a single-stage scroll compressor wrapped in a sound blanket.
The figure that stands out on its spec sheet is the EER, the efficiency measured at 95°F. For the reference combination with a *EN(A,D)4X61*24** coil and a TXV, Arcoaire publishes 46,500 BTU/h, 14.5 SEER and 12.5 EER. The manufacturer advertises up to 16 SEER depending on the matched indoor unit. All these ratings predate the SEER2 standard.
What the installation requires
A unit of this size is not installed lightly. Indoors, the coil and the air handler or electric furnace must be able to deliver the airflow of a 4-ton system. Outdoors, the 40-1/8 x 35 x 35 in cabinet (H x W x D) weighs 340 lb for shipping; its published sound power is 70 dBA. On the electrical side, a 208/230 V single-phase circuit is needed, with a 26.1 A minimum circuit ampacity and a time-delay fuse or breaker of 40 A maximum.
The refrigerant lines connect at 3/8 in (liquid) and 7/8 in (vapor). The 13.00 lb factory charge covers 15 ft of liquid line; beyond 50 ft (15.2 m) of total length or 20 ft (6.1 m) of vertical separation, the manufacturer requires a TXV.

The HSA648GKA is cooling only and, sold alone, it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant. As the HSA6 series is no longer produced, it is available while supplies last. Arcoaire provides a 5-year No Hassle Replacement limited warranty and a 5-year parts limited warranty, plus 5 years with timely registration; according to the certificate, registration cannot be a condition in Quebec.

What does 12.5 EER mean?
EER measures cooling efficiency at an outdoor temperature of 95°F, the temperature of a heat-wave day. Arcoaire publishes 12.5 EER for this air conditioner’s combination with a *EN(A,D)4X61*24** coil and a TXV. It is a rating that predates the SEER2 (EER2) standard.

Is my current air handler suitable?

A 5-year No Hassle Replacement limited warranty and a 5-year parts limited warranty, compressor and coil included, plus 5 years with timely registration. The certificate states that in Quebec, registration cannot be a condition. Labour is not covered by the manufacturer.
