Who the HSA636GKA is for
A larger single-family home, a finished basement connected to the ductwork, south-facing bedrooms upstairs: this is the territory of the 3-ton (36,000 BTU/h) central air conditioner. The HSA636GKA is its outdoor unit in the HSA6 series, Arcoaire’s premium single-stage line. It runs on R-410A, with a single-stage scroll compressor and an outdoor coil made of copper tubes and aluminum fins painted black.
For the reference combination with a *EN(A,D)4X37*17** coil and a TXV, Arcoaire publishes 34,400 BTU/h, 14.5 SEER and 12.0 EER at 95°F. The manufacturer advertises up to 16 SEER depending on the matched indoor unit. These ratings predate the SEER2 standard.
Three checks before choosing this size
A 3-ton unit takes a little more preparation than a small one. Here is what we look at with you.
- The refrigerant lines. The unit has a 7/8 in vapor connection and a 3/8 in liquid connection. The manufacturer requires a TXV beyond 20 ft (6.1 m) of vertical separation or 50 ft (15.2 m) of total length.
- The electrical panel. A 208/230 V single-phase circuit is needed, with a time-delay fuse or breaker of 30 A maximum.
- The location. The cabinet measures 29-7/8 x 35 x 35 in (H x W x D) and weighs 200 lb in operation. Its published sound power is 69 dBA.
Indoors, the unit is matched with a coil set on the electric furnace or housed in an air handler. The Ion communicating control (SYST0101CW, sold separately) lets it configure itself.
What you should know
The HSA636GKA is cooling only: it does not heat and, sold alone, it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant. The HSA6 series is no longer produced by the manufacturer; the unit is available while supplies last. Arcoaire provides a 5-year No Hassle Replacement limited warranty and a 5-year parts limited warranty, extended by 5 years with timely registration. In Quebec, the certificate states that registration cannot be a condition.

Can my current refrigerant lines be used?
The unit’s connections are 3/8 in for the liquid line and 7/8 in for the vapor line. Arcoaire also requires a TXV beyond 20 ft (6.1 m) of vertical separation or 50 ft (15.2 m) of total length. We check the size and condition of the existing lines during the estimate.
What breaker is needed?
A time-delay fuse or breaker of 30 A maximum, on a 208/230 V single-phase circuit with an 18.2 A minimum circuit ampacity.
What actual capacity can I expect?

Does it qualify for the LogisVert grant?

What warranty does Arcoaire provide?
A 5-year No Hassle Replacement limited warranty and a 5-year parts limited warranty, compressor and coil included, plus 5 years with timely registration. The certificate states that in Quebec, registration cannot be a condition. Labour is not covered by the manufacturer.
