Quick facts
The Fantech MDEH1 mechanical dial dehumidistat mounts on the wall and controls a compatible air exchanger based on the home’s relative humidity. You pick a set point on the rotary dial; when humidity goes above it, the exchanger ventilates more to remove the humid air.
Less condensation on the windows in winter
In Québec, in winter, the outdoor air is very dry. Swapping the home’s humid air for that dry air lowers indoor humidity. That is the dehumidistat’s job: make the exchanger work at the right time, when showers, cooking or laundry have pushed humidity up, and leave it on low the rest of the time. The result: less water on the windows and less risk of mould in cold corners.
Adjusting the set point by season
- The colder it is outside, the lower the set point should be.
- If condensation appears on the windows, lower the set point slightly.
- If the air gets too dry, raise it.
Simple and mechanical
The MDEH1 is set with the dial, with no menu or screen. For a model with an indicator light, see the mechanical dehumidistat with indicator light. Install it in a central area, away from the bathroom and the kitchen, and cut power to the exchanger before wiring. Send us your exchanger model: we confirm compatibility.

Clear humidity as soon as it passes your setpoint
The dehumidistat compares room humidity with the dial setting and makes the air exchanger ventilate above it.

- Replacing a faulty wall dehumidistat

Frequently asked questions
Does the MDEH1 dehumidistat work with my air exchanger?
Fantech wall controls are designed for specific air exchangers. Send us the brand and model number of your unit (on the nameplate) and we confirm compatibility before ordering.
How does a dehumidistat work with an air exchanger?
When room relative humidity rises above the dial setting, it calls for more ventilation. In winter the outdoor air is dry, so replacing humid indoor air with it lowers humidity.
What humidity should I set?
It depends on the outdoor temperature: the colder it is, the lower the setpoint should be to avoid condensation on windows. We leave you a guideline when we install it.
Can you install it?
Yes. Our technicians install the dehumidistat and set up the air exchanger, everywhere in Greater Montréal.
