Quick facts
The Fantech MDEH2 mechanical dehumidistat with indicator light controls a compatible air exchanger based on the relative humidity in the house. It adds an indicator light to the mechanical dehumidistat to show when it is running, handy when the exchanger is out of sight, in the basement or the attic.
Know when your exchanger is removing humidity
A dehumidistat makes the exchanger ventilate when humidity rises above the set point. The catch with a model without a light is that you never know whether it is working. With the MDEH2, the light tells you at a glance: useful to check that the setting is right, or to understand why the exchanger runs harder after a shower.
MDEH2 or MDEH1
- MDEH2: mechanical dehumidistat with indicator light.
- MDEH1: mechanical dehumidistat with rotary dial, no light.
Setting it and placing it properly
In winter, the colder it is outside, the lower the set point must be to avoid condensation on the windows. Install the dehumidistat in a central area, in plain view, away from the bathroom and kitchen, which would skew the reading. Cut power to the exchanger before wiring. Send us your exchanger’s model number: we confirm compatibility before ordering.

A humidity control that shows it is working
The MDEH2’s indicator light shows it is operating, which a dial-only dehumidistat does not.
- Homes where the air exchanger is out of sight, in the basement or attic
- Condensation on windows in winter
- Adding humidity control to a compatible air exchanger
- Replacing a faulty wall dehumidistat
