GENERAL AIRSTAGE Aquila XLTH 2-Zone 24,000 BTU Heat Pump: one cold-climate certified compressor for both apartments of the renovated duplex, installed by AirGreen
You are renovating a duplex: new floors, a new kitchen, maybe replaced windows. It is the best time to settle the heating and cooling of both apartments in one go. The GENERAL AIRSTAGE Aquila XLTH 2-zone 24,000 BTU does it with one AOUH24KWAH3 outdoor unit and two wall-mounted heads, one per apartment, in the configuration on this page: 7,000 + 7,000 BTU.
This system is identical to the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE Aquila XLTH with the AOUH24KWAH3 outdoor unit, and for good reason: it is the same product, from the same manufacturer. On January 1, 2026, Fujitsu General Limited simply changed its name to GENERAL Inc., without touching the rest. The AHRI certificate 215447693, the certified values, the cold-climate designation and the warranty of 12 years on the compressor, 12 years on parts and 6 years on labour are the same under both names.
In Laval, in Vimont and Auteuil, we often come across the same profile: a duplex built a few decades ago, the owner on the ground floor, a tenant or a relative upstairs, baseboards everywhere and no ducts. A properly sized XLTH compressor covers both apartments, heats down to −26 °C and keeps a third port free for later.
GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine
Behind the new name, there is an acquisition. Paloma Rheem Holdings, which has owned Rheem since 1988, bought Fujitsu General Limited in August 2025; on January 1, 2026, the company became GENERAL Inc. In Kawasaki, Japan, the head office and the R&D centre have not moved; nothing has changed in the factories either, and the AIRSTAGE products keep their model numbers as well as their warranty program. The GENERAL brand has existed since 1946, and the company behind it, founded in 1936, turns 90 in 2026. Rheem Canada has handled sales in Canada since February 2026, and our distributor, Groupe Master, stays the same.
The Fujitsu brand is being withdrawn gradually, so for a while the same unit is sold under two names. We therefore leave the GENERAL page and the Fujitsu page online, with the same data. The table below compares them plainly.

| Product page | This page | Fujitsu AIRSTAGE Aquila XLTH 2-zone 24,000 BTU |
If you prefer to read the page under the former name, here it is: Fujitsu AIRSTAGE Aquila XLTH 2-zone 24,000 BTU. It describes the same compressor and the same compatible heads.
A renovation changes the way a multi-zone system is installed. When the walls and ceilings are open, we can plan the path of each line before the finishing work instead of running everything outside. In practice, in coordination with your general contractor:
- we mark the location of the two wall-mounted heads while the walls are still bare, so each head blows along the length of the apartment;
- we plan the route of the upstairs head's refrigerant line and drain, often the longest run, before the drywall goes up;
- we reserve the compressor's dedicated electrical circuit while the electrician is already on site;
- we choose the location of the outdoor unit with you, on the ground or on a bracket, based on the new landscaping or the new balcony.
If the work is already finished, nothing is lost: the lines then run in a painted exterior line-set cover, with a single opening per head. Each head has its own line and its own drain, which runs down by gravity; where the slope is lacking, a small condensate pump takes over. The outdoor unit is a little over 32 inches wide and runs at 52.0 dB(A); we place it away from snow build-up and roof drip, and away from bedroom windows.
For two apartments heated with baseboards, what matters is the heat left when the thermometer drops. Under AHRI certificate 215447693, NEEP (ashp.neep.org) lists 16,200 BTU/h at −8 °C at the certified test point, with a COP of 3.34, and up to 26,800 BTU/h at peak. At −15 °C, the AOUH24KWAH3 delivers up to 25,200 BTU/h with a COP of 2.10. And at the coldest certified point, −26 °C, it still provides 14,000 BTU/h with a COP of 1.68: even in deep cold, it returns more energy than it consumes.
COP reads simply: at 3.34, one kilowatt-hour paid for becomes more than three kilowatt-hours of heat in the two apartments, while a baseboard returns only one. That is where the savings of an all-electric duplex lie. The baseboards do not disappear for all that: they stay in place as backup, set to a slightly lower temperature, and only come on if the need exceeds what the system supplies.
Over the whole year, this compressor posts an HSPF2 of 11.5, the rating that measures heating over an entire winter, a SEER2 of 23.5 for the cooling season and an EER2 of 13.5 for hot days. It ranks among the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient units, a distinction that comes on top of its cold-climate designation. Its base pan is fitted with a 150 W heater, so defrost water does not freeze at the bottom of the machine.
Each apartment sets its own temperature with its remote. One honest clarification: the two heads run in the same mode, heating or cooling, since they share one compressor. In practice, a duplex heats and cools in the same seasons; a few days in fall or spring simply call for agreeing on the mode. The Inverter compressor adjusts on its own: its certified minimum capacity of 6,800 BTU/h lets it work gently when only one apartment asks for heat.
The configuration on this page calls for two 7,000 BTU heads, one per apartment, but you choose your indoor units with us. The AOUH24KWAH3 accepts up to 3 zones and the following models:
- ASUH07KPAS, 7,000 BTU, and ASUH09KPAS, 9,000 BTU: the main room of an apartment of ordinary size;
- ASUH12KPAS, 12,000 BTU: the apartment that became open-plan after the renovation, once the wall between the kitchen and the living room came down;
- ASUH15KPAS, 15,000 BTU, and ASUH18KPAS, 18,000 BTU: when one of the apartments is clearly larger or has a lot of glass.
The third port leaves some margin: a basement bedroom, an office fitted out during the work or a second head in the owner's apartment. Each combination is validated against the manufacturer's matching rules before it appears on your quote.
Maintenance is easy to share. The occupants of each apartment take out the indoor filters of their head and rinse them in warm water from time to time; it takes a few minutes. Once a year, our refrigeration technician cleans the outdoor coil and checks the drains, the connections and the R-32 charge. This refrigerant has a global warming potential of 675, versus 2,088 for R-410A according to ENERGY STAR.
Hydro-Québec has placed the AOUH24KWAH3 on its LogisVert list of October 27, 2026, with a grant of $1,944; we check your eligibility for the program when we prepare the quote. The compressor connects to a single circuit, and therefore to a single meter: plan with your tenant how the unit's electricity will be shared, a question that is better settled before the installation than after. Wi-Fi control is available as an option.
This system is meant for the owner-occupant of a duplex who wants to cool and heat both floors without two machines outside, and who uses the renovation to do things right. It also suits the intergenerational duplex, parents upstairs and children downstairs, or the house converted into two apartments. With heating guaranteed down to −26 °C, it is a system designed for Laval winters, not just for heat waves.

What people ask us about multi-zone systems.
Can I heat one room and cool another at the same time?
No. On a multi-zone system like this one, every head works in the same mode, heating or cooling. Each room still keeps its own set temperature.
What happens when every room calls for heat?
They share the outdoor unit’s capacity: 16,200 BTU/h at −8 °C, 25,200 at −15 °C.
How many heads can I connect?
Up to 3 on this outdoor unit. This product is configured for 2 heads.
How much is the LogisVert grant?
$1,944 according to Hydro-Québec’s list of October 27, 2026. The grant never exceeds 100 % of the cost before taxes; apply within 9 months of installation.
Is it ENERGY STAR certified?
Yes, cold climate, ID 3627398. It also meets the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient criteria, according to the ENERGY STAR database.
Down to what temperature does it heat?
Down to −26 °C.
Is it noisy?
Indoors, the reference head goes down to 21 dB(A). Outdoors, 52 dB(A): we place the unit away from bedroom windows.
Why a multi-zone instead of several wall units?
One outdoor unit on the wall and one circuit. In return, the rooms share the capacity, and if the outdoor unit stops, every zone stops.
What does the warranty cover?
Our sheet lists 12 years on the compressor and 12 years on parts. AirGreen extended warranty: possible.
