GENERAL AIRSTAGE Aquila XLTH 3-Zone 36,000 BTU Heat Pump: the all-electric cottage, a 12,000 BTU living area and two bedrooms heated down to −26 °C, installed by AirGreen
The North Shore cottage often has the same energy story: baseboard heating, an electric water heater, a Hydro-Québec bill that climbs as soon as December arrives, and a living area that never really cools down in July. The GENERAL AIRSTAGE Aquila XLTH 3-zone 36,000 BTU takes on that picture with a single AOUH36KWAH4 outdoor unit and three wall-mounted heads, split on this page into 7,000 + 7,000 + 12,000 BTU, meaning one large head for the living area and a smaller head in each of the two bedrooms.
We also sell this multi-zone system under the name Fujitsu AIRSTAGE Aquila XLTH, with the same AOUH36KWAH4 outdoor unit. Fujitsu General Limited, which makes it, adopted the name GENERAL Inc. on January 1, 2026 without altering the AHRI certificate 215735282, the certified values, the cold-climate designation or the warranty of 12 years on the compressor, 12 years on parts and 6 years on labour.
In Repentigny as in Blainville, we see this format work in cottages of every era: the open-plan ground floor, where the family spends its evenings, and the upper floor, where everyone sleeps. The compressor accepts up to 4 zones; the fourth port stays free for a third bedroom or a finished basement.
GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine
The reason for the new name comes down to two dates. August 2025: Paloma Rheem Holdings, parent company of Rheem since 1988, buys Fujitsu General Limited. January 1, 2026: the company becomes GENERAL Inc. Kawasaki, Japan, remains the head office and the home of the R&D centre; as for the factories, the AIRSTAGE line, the model numbers and the warranty program, they remain identical. GENERAL is a name used since 1946 by a company founded in 1936, which therefore turns 90 in 2026. Rheem Canada has handled sales in the country since February 2026; on our side, we still buy from Groupe Master, our distributor.
The Fujitsu brand is being withdrawn in stages, so the same machine circulates under two names for the duration of the transition. To spare you any hesitation, we display both pages, and the table below sets them side by side.

| Product page | This page | Fujitsu AIRSTAGE Aquila XLTH 3-zone 36,000 BTU |
The twin page can be reached here: Fujitsu AIRSTAGE Aquila XLTH 3-zone 36,000 BTU. It presents the same AOUH36KWAH4, with the same heads and the same values.
In a cottage, each zone has its role, and the configuration on this page assigns them as follows:
- The living area, 12,000 BTU: the strongest head goes in the open-plan ground floor, living room, dining room and kitchen, where heat escapes through the large windows and the patio door, and where the afternoon sun overheats the room in summer.
- The master bedroom, 7,000 BTU: a head sized for a closed room, which holds a steady sleeping temperature without blowing hard.
- The second bedroom, 7,000 BTU: a child's or teenager's bedroom, or an office, with its own setpoint.
Nothing is locked in for all that. The AOUH36KWAH4 is compatible with six indoor units: ASUH07KPAS (7,000 BTU), ASUH09KPAS (9,000 BTU), ASUH12KPAS (12,000 BTU), ASUH15KPAS (15,000 BTU), ASUH18KPAS (18,000 BTU) and ASUH24KPAS (24,000 BTU). A living area with a cathedral ceiling may justify a larger head, while a small bedroom can make do with the smallest. We measure each room, then we validate the combination against the manufacturer's matching rules.
To understand what the system changes in an all-electric cottage, follow a January day. In the morning, the living area and the bedrooms ask for heat at the same time, and the compressor ramps up. During the day, the house empties or nearly so: it slows down to its certified minimum capacity of 12,000 BTU/h instead of stopping. In the evening, the living area does the work, while the bedrooms stay at their setpoint. At night, the two bedrooms take over. At every moment, a single outdoor unit answers what the house asks for, and the baseboards stay on as backup, set a little lower.
NEEP's figures (ashp.neep.org) for AHRI certificate 215735282 show why this compressor suits the North Shore, where January nights can be colder than in central Montreal. On a −8 °C morning, the compressor delivers 24,400 BTU/h at certified rating, at a COP of 3.33, and has a peak of 38,000 BTU/h to bring the house back up to temperature. When the cold reaches −15 °C, the published value rises as high as 36,400 BTU/h, at a COP of 1.90. And at −26 °C, both the coldest certified point and the limit of the guaranteed heating, the machine still supplies 22,140 BTU/h, at a COP of 1.66.
For a household heated with baseboards, the reading is straightforward. Every kilowatt-hour sent into a baseboard comes out as one kilowatt-hour of heat, with no gain at all. At −8 °C, this system produces more than three; at −26 °C, still more than one and a half. The HSPF2 of 10.0 gives the heating average for the whole season, and the SEER2 of 22.0, with an EER2 of 13.0, that of cooling. The ENERGY STAR Most Efficient designation comes on top of the cold-climate designation, and a 150 W heater prevents ice from forming in the outdoor unit's base pan.
One rule that applies to any multi-zone system: the three heads share a mode, heating or cooling. In a family home, that is rarely a constraint, since the whole house lives through the same season at the same time. Room-by-room comfort, for its part, is complete: everyone sets their temperature and fan speed with their remote, and Wi-Fi, available as an option, lets them do it from a phone.
Installing a three-zone system in a cottage follows a simple plan. The outdoor unit, which measures 37 inches across and is rated at 56.0 dB(A), sits on a raised ground pad, at the side or at the back, away from the dryer vent and from snow sliding off the roof. From there, three refrigerant lines leave: one toward the living-area head, almost always on an exterior wall of the ground floor, and two that rise toward the bedrooms, in a line-set cover painted to match the siding. The condensate from each head drains to the outside; if a head has to be mounted on an interior wall, a miniature condensate pump handles it. The electrician provides a dedicated circuit at the panel; in an all-electric cottage, we check the capacity of the electrical service with you before the installation.
Maintaining the system takes little time. The indoor filters of the three heads come out in one motion and wash under the tap, in warm water; the living-area one, which sees the most air, deserves to be checked first. Each year, the refrigeration technician cleans the outdoor coil and checks the drains, the connections and the R-32 charge, a refrigerant whose global warming potential is 675, versus 2,088 for R-410A according to ENERGY STAR.
The LogisVert grant set for the AOUH36KWAH4 amounts to $2,928 on Hydro-Québec's list of October 27, 2026. Before you commit, we confirm with you that your house meets the program rules.
This system is made for the North Shore family that wants to move beyond all-baseboard heating without running ducts through a cottage that never had any: a well-heated living area, two bedrooms at the right temperature and air conditioning as a bonus. It also suits the couple whose children have left home and who only want to heat the rooms in use at full comfort. And with the fourth port free, it keeps up with the house if a bedroom or a basement is added later.

What people ask us about multi-zone systems.
Can I heat one room and cool another at the same time?
No. On a multi-zone system like this one, every head works in the same mode, heating or cooling. Each room still keeps its own set temperature.
What happens when every room calls for heat?
They share the outdoor unit’s capacity: 24,400 BTU/h at −8 °C, 36,400 at −15 °C.
How many heads can I connect?
Up to 4 on this outdoor unit. This product is configured for 3 heads.
How much is the LogisVert grant?
$2,928 according to Hydro-Québec’s list of October 27, 2026. The grant never exceeds 100 % of the cost before taxes; apply within 9 months of installation.
Is it ENERGY STAR certified?
Yes, cold climate, ID 3630082. It also meets the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient criteria, according to the ENERGY STAR database.
Down to what temperature does it heat?
Down to −26 °C.
Is it noisy?
Indoors, the reference head goes down to 21 dB(A). Outdoors, 56 dB(A): we place the unit away from bedroom windows.
Why a multi-zone instead of several wall units?
One outdoor unit on the wall and one circuit. In return, the rooms share the capacity, and if the outdoor unit stops, every zone stops.
What does the warranty cover?
Our sheet lists 12 years on the compressor and 12 years on parts. AirGreen extended warranty: possible.
