GENERAL AIRSTAGE Aquila XLTH 3-Zone 24,000 BTU Heat Pump: the triplex heated and cooled by a single cold-climate certified compressor, one setpoint per apartment, installed by AirGreen
Three stacked apartments, three households, three different schedules, and a single back yard to house the equipment. The GENERAL AIRSTAGE Aquila XLTH 3-zone 24,000 BTU answers this puzzle so typical of the Montreal triplex: one AOUH24KWAH3 outdoor unit, three wall-mounted heads, which the configuration on this page sets at 7,000 + 7,000 + 7,000 BTU, and three setpoints that depend only on the occupant of each floor.
The system sold here is the same as the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE Aquila XLTH with the AOUH24KWAH3 outdoor unit, with the same AHRI certificate 215447693, the same values certified by NEEP and the same warranty of 12 years on the compressor, 12 years on parts and 6 years on labour. Only the manufacturer's name has changed: Fujitsu General Limited became GENERAL Inc. on January 1, 2026.
In Ahuntsic and Villeray, triplexes with outdoor staircases and back balconies make up entire streets. Most have never had ducts, and their owners are looking for a way to offer air conditioning and more efficient heating without installing three units in the yard. With this compressor, all three available ports are used: one apartment, one zone.
GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine
The move from Fujitsu to GENERAL comes down to a change of owner. Paloma Rheem Holdings, which has owned Rheem since 1988, acquired Fujitsu General Limited in August 2025. On January 1, 2026, the company was renamed GENERAL Inc., without moving: Kawasaki, Japan, still hosts its head office and its R&D centre, the factories are unchanged, the AIRSTAGE products and their model numbers are kept, and the warranty program stays the same. The GENERAL name has been in use since 1946, and the company, founded in 1936, also marks its 90th anniversary in 2026. For Canada, Rheem Canada took over sales in February 2026, and Groupe Master remains our distributor.
The Fujitsu logo is fading out over the months; until then, two names refer to the same outdoor unit. Rather than choose for you, we publish both pages and compare them below, row by row.

| Product page | This page | Fujitsu AIRSTAGE Aquila XLTH 3-zone 24,000 BTU |
To see this system under its former name, open the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE Aquila XLTH 3-zone 24,000 BTU page: same machine, same heads, same figures.
Here is how we lay out the system in a typical triplex:
- The outdoor unit goes in the back yard, on a raised ground pad, or on a wall bracket when the yard is narrow. With its 52.0 dB(A) and a width of a little over 32 inches, it stays discreet in a back lane where the neighbours' windows are never far.
- The ground floor gets the shortest line: the head goes in the main room, often the double living room, and its drain reaches the outside directly.
- The second and third floors are fed by two lines that rise along the back façade, in a painted line-set cover, next to the staircase or the balcony. Each line passes through the wall behind its head.
- Each head has its own condensate drain, by gravity to the outside or through a small condensate pump when the chosen wall does not allow it, and its own remote.
The electrician connects a single dedicated circuit for the compressor. Since the unit depends on a single meter, often the common-area meter or the owner's, the comfort of all three apartments goes through one bill: that is a management decision to make with full knowledge, and we discuss it frankly at the quote.
On the efficiency side, the XLTH compressor has what it takes to reassure an owner. NEEP (ashp.neep.org) publishes the following certified values for AHRI number 215447693:
- −8 °C: 16,200 BTU/h at certified rating, COP of 3.34, peak at 26,800 BTU/h;
- −15 °C: up to 25,200 BTU/h, COP of 2.10;
- −26 °C, coldest certified point: 14,000 BTU/h, COP of 1.68.
Read simply, a COP of 3.34 means the heat pump produces more than three units of heat for every unit of electricity billed; a baseboard produces only one. Heating is guaranteed down to −26 °C, but let us be clear about how it is shared: in deep cold, the compressor's capacity is divided among the three apartments. Each 7,000 BTU head heats the main room of its floor first, and the bedroom baseboards stay in place to make up the difference. The system thus takes on the bulk of the heating, at the best efficiency, and the electric backup only serves as a complement.
Over a whole season, the HSPF2 of 11.5 reflects this average heating efficiency; in summer, the SEER2 of 23.5 and the EER2 of 13.5 show what cooling costs, season and heat waves included. The top apartment, under the roof, is almost always the hottest in summer: it is often the one that benefits most from the system. The model holds the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient designation and the cold-climate designation, and a 150 W heater protects its base pan against ice.
Three setpoints, one mode: the three heads run together in heating or together in cooling. In a triplex, this is handled smoothly, since the three apartments live through the same seasons. Within the same mode, each tenant chooses their temperature, fan speed and hours. The Inverter compressor adapts to the number of apartments calling; when a single floor asks for heat, it drops to 6,800 BTU/h, its certified minimum capacity, instead of shutting off and restarting.
The three 7,000 BTU heads on this page suit the main room of a triplex apartment, but nothing requires three identical heads. With the AOUH24KWAH3, and within the limit of 3 zones, you choose among:
- ASUH07KPAS, 7,000 BTU;
- ASUH09KPAS, 9,000 BTU;
- ASUH12KPAS, 12,000 BTU;
- ASUH15KPAS, 15,000 BTU.
The owner's apartment, often on the ground floor and sometimes extended into the basement, can get a stronger head, while the two rented floors keep 7,000 BTU heads. We size apartment by apartment, and each combination is checked against the manufacturer's matching rules before it appears on the quote.
Maintenance works on two levels. On the occupants' side, the indoor filters come out of each head by hand and wash in warm water; give each tenant a short written instruction, or clean them yourself during your rounds of the building. Once a year, the refrigeration technician inspects the outdoor unit, cleans its coil and checks the three drains, the connections and the R-32 charge. This refrigerant has a global warming potential of 675, versus 2,088 for R-410A according to ENERGY STAR.
On the financial side, Hydro-Québec's LogisVert list of October 27, 2026 provides $1,944 for the AOUH24KWAH3. The eligibility of a rental building follows the program rules; we check them with you before signing. Wi-Fi control is available as an option, head by head, for the tenant who wants to adjust their apartment remotely.
This system is cut out for the triplex owner who wants to add air conditioning to all three apartments, reduce the share of baseboards in the heating and have only one machine to maintain. It is also meant for the owner-occupant who lives on one floor and rents the other two, and who wants to offer tenants the same comfort as their own. For a triplex where each apartment needs two heads, we will move to a larger compressor or to two systems; for one head per apartment, this one does exactly the job.

What people ask us about multi-zone systems.
Can I heat one room and cool another at the same time?
No. On a multi-zone system like this one, every head works in the same mode, heating or cooling. Each room still keeps its own set temperature.
What happens when every room calls for heat?
They share the outdoor unit’s capacity: 16,200 BTU/h at −8 °C, 25,200 at −15 °C.
How many heads can I connect?
Up to 3 on this outdoor unit. This product is configured for 3 heads.
How much is the LogisVert grant?
$1,944 according to Hydro-Québec’s list of October 27, 2026. The grant never exceeds 100 % of the cost before taxes; apply within 9 months of installation.
Is it ENERGY STAR certified?
Yes, cold climate, ID 3627398. It also meets the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient criteria, according to the ENERGY STAR database.
Down to what temperature does it heat?
Down to −26 °C.
Is it noisy?
Indoors, the reference head goes down to 21 dB(A). Outdoors, 52 dB(A): we place the unit away from bedroom windows.
Why a multi-zone instead of several wall units?
One outdoor unit on the wall and one circuit. In return, the rooms share the capacity, and if the outdoor unit stops, every zone stops.
What does the warranty cover?
Our sheet lists 12 years on the compressor and 12 years on parts. AirGreen extended warranty: possible.
