Quick facts
The PTAC drain kit connects to the unit’s wall sleeve and directs the condensate to a drain. Without it, the water the PTAC pulls out of the air can drip from the back of the sleeve, down the building face or onto whatever is below.
When to plan for a drain kit
PTAC manufacturers recommend a drain kit when condensate is likely to drip somewhere it should not. In a Montréal building, the same cases come up often:
- a unit above an entrance, a sidewalk or a neighbour’s balcony;
- a brick or stone facade where water leaves streaks;
- a surface where water freezes in winter and becomes slippery.
Compatibility with the sleeve
The kit must be designed for your units’ wall sleeve. Send us the brand and model of your PTACs and their sleeve: we confirm compatibility before ordering.
Good practices
Plan the route and slope to the drain before the sleeve is installed. A route exposed to the cold must drain completely or stay protected from freezing. At start-up, run the unit in cooling mode and check that the water flows all the way to the drain.

Condensate goes where it should
Manufacturers recommend a drain kit when water could drip in an undesirable spot.
- PTACs above a sidewalk, an entrance, a balcony or a terrace
- Façades where water leaves streaks or stains
- Buildings where water can freeze on surfaces under the unit
- Connection to an indoor drain built into the wall
