LENNOX publishes an AHRI rating for each outdoor unit with the same head, and a heating table for each (21 °C indoors). Pick a size, and everything compares.

AHRI ratings at -8.3 °C: 7,700 for the MPB, 7,800 for the MLA, almost the same: it is in the tables, in the cold, that the MLA pulls ahead.
The MPB heats down to -25 °C (-13 °F), the MLA to -30 °C (-22 °F). At Montréal-Trudeau, about 12 nights a year drop below -20 °C.

In its “Old to New Mini-Split Models” table, LENNOX sets each MPB against an MPC, a 3rd generation: the MPB012S4S-1P against the MPC012S4S-1P, for example. The B in the number means 2nd generation.

LENNOX bulletin 210863 (December 2020). The wall units on our product pages use the MWMA -3P at 9,000 and 12,000. Factory charge covers 25 ft of line; beyond that, 0.16 oz of R-410A per foot (0.32 oz for the 24,000).
The MLA, at all four sizes, according to the LENNOX tables: at -15 °C, the 12,000 gives 12,100 BTU/h against 9,130 for the MPB. It also heats lower: down to -30 °C, against -25 °C for the MPB. The MPB has the better HSPF rating at all four sizes.
Yes: LENNOX publishes an AHRI rating for each series with the same head, at each size. At 9,000 and 12,000, our product pages use the MWMA -3P; at 18,000 and 24,000, the -2P. We check your head’s number on site.
LENNOX doesn’t publish one: the December 2020 bulletin rates the MPB in SEER, EER and HSPF. We don’t convert these numbers to SEER2, and we don’t compare them with the SEER2 of the R-32 wall units.
LENNOX gives it a heating range of -13 to 86 °F, i.e. -25 to 30 °C, and its table stops at -25 °C. At Montréal-Trudeau, about 12 nights a year drop below -20 °C, and the 1991-2020 low is -31.8 °C: keep your existing heating for those nights.

No. LENNOX extended warranty EW900011-01 names Québec among the places where registration is not required: an MPB installed on or after March 1, 2017 gets 12 years on parts and 12 years on the compressor. Labour is not covered by LENNOX, and the extension stays with the original owner.
