Quick facts
45 kW of hot water to heat a commercial space through its ventilation ductwork
The VoltMax 45 on 240 V three phase
Thermo 2000’s VoltMax is a hot water electric boiler designed for commercial and institutional buildings. The 45 kW model, supplied at 240 V three phase, produces 153,540 BTU/h and draws 108.3 A. It is part of configuration A, which groups the 22.5 to 90 kW sizes.
It heats the water of a closed loop. That water can feed radiators or radiant floors, but also the coil of a ventilation unit: this is known as hydro-air.
Hydro-air: heating through the ductwork with hot water
Many stores, showrooms and restaurants are heated by air distributed through their ductwork. In a hydro-air system, that air passes through a coil supplied with hot water by the boiler, warms up, then circulates through the space. The boiler stays in the mechanical room; the coil goes in the air handler or in a unit heater.
The VoltMax 45 adapts to the chosen coil. Its setpoint ranges from 50 °F to 200 °F (10 °C to 93 °C), and the included outdoor sensor lets the water be adjusted to the weather. Its output follows the demand: SCR solid-state relays vary it from 0 to 100%, in addition to relay stages, and Thermo 2000 points out that this modulation limits peak power demand.
The Schneider Electric controller can also take its commands from the system that runs the ventilation. It communicates over BACnet IP or MS-TP and accepts a 0-10 Vdc signal for setpoint and output. Its Ethernet port provides a web page and email alarms.
What installation by AirGreen covers
AirGreen works in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical under RBQ licence 5645-9605-01, so we look at the whole hydro-air system, not just the boiler. The on-site estimate is free in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore and on the South Shore. We survey the ductwork, the ventilation unit, the 240 V three-phase service and the space in the mechanical room, then give you a written quote. It specifies the circulator and expansion tank, which are not among the parts supplied by Thermo 2000, and the coil if it needs replacing.
We install the boiler with the required clearances, including 24 in in front and 32 in above, connect it through its 1 1/2 in NPT connections, mount the outdoor sensor and make the electrical connection. After filling and purging, we set the setpoint for the coil and check the supply air temperature with you.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years. Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.

Hot water for the ventilation coils of a commercial space
In a hydro-air system, the boiler heats the water and a ventilation unit runs it through a coil; the warmed air then travels through the ductwork. The VoltMax 45 is the boiler in this setup, on 240 V three phase.
- Stores, showrooms and restaurants heated by air through the ductwork
- Air handlers or unit heaters fitted with a hot water coil
- Commercial buildings on 240 V three phase
- Mixed systems: coils, radiators and radiant floors

Frequently asked questions
What is a hydro-air system?
Heating where hot water from a boiler runs through the coil of a ventilation unit. The air passing through the coil warms up and travels through the ductwork. The VoltMax 45 supplies that hot water.
Can the boiler follow the ventilation?
Yes. Its Schneider Electric controller communicates over BACnet IP or MS-TP and accepts an external 0-10 Vdc signal for setpoint and output.
Can coils and radiant floors be combined?
Yes, the same boiler can serve several circuits. A radiant floor needs cooler water than a coil: the system design takes this into account, and we do it during the estimate.
What current should be planned for?
Thermo 2000 lists 108.3 A for this 240 V three-phase model. The electrician sizes the protection and conductors from that value.
What warranty does Thermo 2000 offer?
10 years on the tank (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and 2 years on electrical and mechanical components, parts and accessories.
